Cambridge Cross Country Boys and Girls Finish in Top 10 at GHSA State Championships

Cambridge Cross Country Boys and Girls Finish in Top 10 at GHSA State Championships

Under what can best be described as challenging conditions, the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams both showed that they belong with the top XC teams in the state Saturday, November 7th.

As the pre-race announcer put it so well at the State Meet, both teams deserved to be there yesterday with the spots they had earned by finishing second in the most competitive 5A region in the state.

Prior to the State Meet, the Cambridge Boys team was ranked 8th in 5A. And with strong races from all runners, the Boys finished the meet in 5th place, just 14 points shy of making their first ever podium appearance. While the loss of the perennial top performer Bjorn Leicher (SR) and Liam Nugent (SR) will be big shoes to fill for next year, the depth of the boys team should mean continued success for 2016.

Heading into the State meet, the Cambridge Girls team also moved up from their pre-race ranking (9th) to finish in eighth place. The overall strength and consistency of the Cambridge girls was evident as they were one of only four teams to place all 7 girls in the top 70, and the only team to do so without a senior on their roster! The girls fought an extra obstacle in their race as the only race during the day that had a steady rain throughout, making a challenging day even tougher.

Congratulations to both teams on a year filled with perseverance and determination to reach your goals. Cambridge Cross Country has much to be proud of!

Thanks to all of the runners, coaches, parents, and volunteers for all of your hard work this season!

  • Boys –  5th place out of 32 teams
  • Girls –  8th place out of 32 teams

Congratulations and Go Bears!
