Lady Bears Volleyball Sweeps at Aloha Bash Tournament August 24th

The Varsity Volleyball team may have been unknown at the start of the Aloha Bash on Saturday but closed out the day with a decisive "We are Cambridge." Sweeping their matches at Brookwood High School finishing 8-1 in sets and 4-0 in match play, the team's deep and talented defense was consistent throughout the day, making critical digs that kept the ball in play.  Sophomores Alex Wright (34 digs), Eileen Hardy (21 digs) and Paige Clark (19 digs) kept opponents at bay with non-stop defense.  Led by Sophomore Brenna Ediger who chalked up four critical blocks, the team's improved blocking techniques and timing helped add points and improved the back row's ability to cover digs,.

Sole Senior Annie Jackson served up a series that were fast, consistent and hard to return, helping the Bears close out games. Freshman Regan Swift earned 10 aces throughout the series, followed by fellow Freshman Lauren Swift with seven aces. On the front lines, the Lady Bears were on the attack posting impressive kill stats. Freshman Setter Olivia Hansen put up the ball for 66 assists, helping team mates

Regan Swift and Lauren Swift each earn 21 kills, followed by Alex Wright with 20 kill shots and Junior Lexi Paganelli with 16 kills.

The Bears opened against Dacula winning in straight sets (25-17, 25-23).  Against a determined Archer High School team, the Bears took the first set 25-6, ultimately going to three sets after the opponent's defensive stepped up the pace and covered the tips, besting the Bears in Game 2 (16-25). The Bears took the third in 15-4, handily defeating Archer on the team's way to a sweep.

Against opponent Providence Christian, Cambridge won 25-20 and 25-21 thanks to the consistency of the front line offense and wide coverage from the defense.  In the final match of the day, Cambridge faced their biggest physical opponent – Grayson – who led for more than half the game before the Bears tightened their ball handling and took the first set in a nail-biter, 25-17. Cambridge remained focused and committed and shut down Grayson's offense in the second game for a decisive 25-10 win.

As they move through the season, the Bears are defining their offensive set calling and smarter, faster hitting schemes and scoring "earned points" that have been elusive in the past.

The Bears take the court Tuesday, August 27 at 5pm against North Forsyth and Rockdale at North Forsyth HS.
