Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Remains Undefeated in Region Play with Win Over Chattahoochee, Tuesday, Mar. 3rd

Johns Creek, Ga.—Following a dominating 7-0 win over Centennial last Friday, the varsity soccer Lady Bears continue their winning streak in region play with a decisive 6-3 win over Chattahoochee at the Cougar Stadium Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

It was a slow start for both teams with the Lady Bears getting their first goal 15 minutes into the first half.  A corner kick by senior Molly Booker perfectly placed to junior Kyndall Jenkins for the header to put the Lady Bears on the board.  Ten minutes later, the Cougars got on the board after a play started with a corner kick that eventually found its way past junior goalie Abby Fields.  But just 30-seconds later, Cambridge answered back letting the Cougars know they weren't having any of it with a run up the middle and goal by freshman Jordyn Dudley.  With 8 minutes left in the first half, Cambridge came knocking again with a corner kick by senior Amanda Navin which found the head of sophomore Kaitlyn Leibel to put the ball in the net.  The score was 3-1 with the Lady Bears on top at the half.

The half-time speech must have been very inspiring because 3 minutes into the second half Jordan Dudley ran right up the line and took the shot to put Cambridge up 4-1.  Less than a minute later Molly Booker sent the ball up to Kaitlyn Leibel who put it in the back of the net for her second goal on the night putting the Lady Bears up 5-1.

Chattahoochee, however, was not going to let this region game go so easily.  The fouls started flying giving Cambridge several missed opportunities on free kicks.   With 25 minutes left in the game junior Maggie Smith went toe to toe with a Hooch defender in the attacking third of the field when she suffered an injury to her knee causing her to come out.  Four minutes later, the Cougars continued pressuring the Cambridge defense leading to their second goal making the score 5-2.  Chattahoochee pressed some more sending the ball past sophomore Olivia Barfield with 12 minutes left in the game to turn the score into 5-3.  With just 5 minutes to go a foul on Jordyn Dudley allowed for another free kick, which after a little bobbling around found the feet of Amanda Navin who sent the ball to Jordyn Dudley to turn into another goal giving her a hat-trick on the night.   Cambridge defeated Chattahoochee with a final score of 6-3.

The Lady Bears continue with region play this Friday at Youth Night at home against Alpharetta at 6 p.m.  Prior to the game, all future female Cambridge soccer players in grades 4th through 8th are invited to join the players and coaches for a meet and greet starting at 4:30 p.m.
