Lady Bears JV Soccer Ties Milton, Loses to North Atlanta, March 22nd & 23rd

Milton Eagles vs Cambridge Lady Bears (JV) – Wednesday, March 22nd @7:30PM

The Lady Bears four game winning streak came to a halt on Wednesday evening as we drew 1-1 against our local rivals the Milton Eagles.

The Lady Bears fired the first shots of the game with an attempt at goal in the 5th minute from Caitlin Powers (37) forcing a save from the Eagles goalkeeper. Megan Clark (33) then found the side netting in the 9th minute as she chased a wide through ball from Amanda Navin (23).

The Eagles tried to make something happen on the right wing as the half progressed but the Lady Bears defense stood strong. A hopeful shot in the 24th minute from the Eagles flying harmlessly over the bar.

A spirited first half from both sides ended 0-0 with both teams limiting each other to speculative long range attempts on goal.

The Eagles started the second half on the front foot as they put our defense under some pressure for the first 5 minutes. The Lady Bears then setup up a promising counter attack and won a corner in the 41st minute. Samantha Nelson (32) almost scoring the opening goal until the Eagles goalkeeper tipped the ball over the bar. That attempt at goal fortified the Lady Bears as Caitlin Powers (37) attempted a deft header in the 44thminute which had the goalkeeper beaten but an alert Eagles defender prevented the ball from crossing the goal line. We followed up with a corner in the 45th minute which the Eagles defense just about scrambled away.

The opening goal duly arrived in the 46th minute as Megan Clark (33) slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner with the goalkeeper at full stretch. 1-0 to the Lady Bears!

The Eagles almost immediately equalized from the kickoff as a shot from their striker narrowly missed the target. Molly Booker (24) then almost added a second goal in the 46th minute but was well stopped from getting a shot away by the Eagles defense.

The Eagles eventually found the back of the net in the 52nd minute, scrambling the ball over the line. 1-1.

Both teams went in search for a winning goal as the clock wound down but it remained 1-1 with no bragging rights for the two local teams!

The Lady Bears move to 5-1-2 for the season and play North Atlanta tomorrow, Thursday, March 23rd

North Atlanta Warriors vs Cambridge Lady Bears (JV) – Thursday, March 23rd @5:55pm

The Lady Bears played their second game in two days against the North Atlanta Warriors on Thursday and tasted defeat for the first time in five games as they bravely lost 3-1.

The Warriors created minor panic in the Lady Bears penalty area from a corner in the 2nd minute serving an early warning of their intent.  A corner for the Lady Bears in the 4th minute caused the Warriors goalkeeper to fumble the ball but we couldn't take advantage.

The Lady Bears grew in confidence as the game progressed and a ball over the top in the 11th minute almost put Megan Clark (33) through on goal. A corner from the Warriors in the 13th minute had everyone on the edge of their seats as the ball whizzed around like a "pin-ball" in the penalty area!

The opening goal of the game came in the 15th minute from Molly Booker (24). A close range finish as the goalkeeper failed to hold on to a shot from Caitlin Powers (37).  1-0 to the Lady Bears!

Caitlin Powers (37) then forced the Warriors goalkeeper into making a save in the 19th minute. A penetrating run down the left from Molly Booker (24) then followed. Booker expertly cutting across the defender and unleashing a right footed shot that just went over the bar. Almost immediately a sublime through ball from Grace Dass (29) found Erica Quinn (28) on the right, Quinn took one touch and fired a shot just wide. Then in the 23rdminute, Grace Dass (29) cleverly intercepted a ball from the Warriors backline and shot at goal but the ball narrowly missed the target.

It took the Warriors just over 2 minutes into the second half to score the equalizer. An unstoppable shot from the striker after she wriggled past two defenders. 1-1

The Warriors carved out another good chance in the 43rd minute as a looping "cross-shot" from the left threatened the goal. The Lady Bears put together a string of passes in midfield in the 44th minute and a final defense splitting pass found Caitlin Powers (37) who just missed the goal with her attempt.

Unfortunately for the Lady Bears, the Warriors went ahead in the 52nd minute as they scored with a chipped goal over a tired looking defense. 2-1 to the Warriors.

The Lady Bears displayed great courage as they kept out a now rampant Warriors team until the 57th minute. The Warriors third goal coming from a cross on the right hand side that was stabbed goal wards just out of Katie Abbott's (41) reach.

The Lady Bears are a resilient bunch and immediately after conceding the third goal, we created two chances in quick succession in an attempt to reduce the deficit. Both chances were on target and required the Warriors goalkeeper to intervene.

We are now 5-2-2 for the season and play Chattahoochee on Monday, March 27th @ 7:30.

Go Bears and let's finish the season strongly!
