Lady Bears Soccer Secures #1 or #2 Seed for State Tourney with Win over Sequoyah, Friday, Apr. 15th

The Lady Bears Varsity Soccer team secured at least a #2 seed (and, consequently, at least one home game) for the State tournament, which begins Wednesday, April 27, by defeating Sequoyah for the second time in two weeks.  The Lady Bears extended their regional play success and took their record in region to 7-1 with a 3-1 win on Friday night, April 15th.

The Lady Bears opened the scoring approximately 15 minutes into the first half, after dominating play up to that point, on a goal scored by Charlotte Teeter when she skillfully lofted a ball from deep on the right wing up over the keeper and into the far side of the netting.  The Lady Bears extended their lead to 2-0 shortly before the halftime whistle when Carly Shayne dropped a corner kick in near the goal line, chaos ensued as a result of multiple Cambridge players in the fray, including Charlotte Teeter and Mary Koch, and the ball was ultimately pushed into the net on what we will officially score an "own goal" against Sequoyah.

The Lady Bears, under a bit more pressure early in the second half, still managed a third goal to take a 3-0 lead when Charlotte Teeter scored her second of the night, tucking in a rebound of a shot that resulted in a loose ball in the box.  From that point, the Lady Bears absorbed quite a bit of pressure from Sequoyah (including Sequoyah clawing one goal back to cut the lead to 3-1) but bent without breaking as Hannah Marrone made some key saves, including a beautiful, sprawling save on a Sequoyah breakaway, and put in an overall strong second half performance on the back of the first half "clean sheet" recorded by Reagan Dunwoodie in goal.

The Lady Bears will continue their season when they play North Atlanta (at North Atlanta) on Tuesday, April 19 (kickoff at 5.30pm) to determine the #1 and #2 seeds for the State tournament for Region 7.

The Lady Bears will open State tournament play at Cambridge High School on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 with opponent and kickoff time yet to be determined.

Go Lady Bears!
