Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Defeats Sequoyah and Riverwood

Lady Bears Dismantle #9-Ranked Sequoyah in 7AAAAA Matchup, Monday, March 28th

The Lady Bears Varsity Soccer team soundly defeated the #9-ranked Sequoyah Lady Chiefs on Monday night, March 28th at Cambridge High School by a score of 8-1.  Sequoyah came into the matchup with a 9-2 record overall and a perfect 6-0 record in their sub-region within Region 7AAAAA. 

The Lady Bears dominated play from the beginning en route to a comfortable win that allowed the Lady Bears to collect some rest in advance of a pivotal matchup on Wednesday evening at Cambridge High School.  While dominating play, the score was only 1-0 in favor of the Lady Bears at halftime with the lone goal scored by Charlotte Teeter.  The Lady Bears found their groove in the second half and netted seven goals, scored by: Hannah Behner (two goals), Carly Shayne, Natalia Tovar, Natalia Garcia (assisted by Hannah Behner), Carly Dickman (assisted by Leigh Hamblin) and Leigh Hamblin (assisted on a ball over the top by Natalia Tovar).

The Lady Bears go to 9-4-2 overall and 6-0 in regional play (remaining 5-0 in sub-region play)  and will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday night, March 30th at Cambridge High School in a matchup against yet another Top 10-ranked opponent (North Atlanta, also 5-0 in sub-region, #4-ranked in State).  The Match will determine the #1-seed for the regional tournament to commence on April 12.

The Lady Bears kickoff against North Atlanta on Wednesday, March 30 at 5.55pm kickoff.  Looking forward to after Spring Break, the regional tournament will kick off with the Lady Bears hosting the opener on April 12 at Cambridge High School (opponent to be determined based on final standings).

Lady Bears Soccer Capture State #10 Ranking Following Latest Regional Win, Friday, March 25th

The Lady Bears Varsity Soccer team took home their second regional win of the week and continued their unbeaten record in regional play on the season when they visited Riverwood High School on Friday night, March 25th and cruised to a 5-0 win.  In the latest State 5A rankings, the Lady Bears captured the #10 ranking in the State, while Region 7 overall has three Top 10-ranked teams (including the Lady Bears). 

First half goals were scored by Charlotte Teeter and Cat Powers (first appearance with the Varsity squad – welcome!) while second half goals were scored by Julia Schukle (assist by Charlotte Teeter), Charlotte Teeter (great tenacity to put in the second or third rebound) and Hannah Behner (assisted by Sara Bailey). 

The midfield was controlled throughout the match by a combination of Cambridge midfielders, including Carly Shayne, Amanda Feely, Natalia Garcia, Julia Schukle and Sara Bailey while the Lady Bears defense, anchored by Nikki Hlebec, Leigh Hamblin, Kiely Gaertner, Tyra Quam, Hannah Marrone (goalkeeper) and Reagan Dunwoodie (goalkeeper), maintained their streak of having conceded zero goals in regional play.

The Lady Bears go to 5-0 in regional play and will wrap up the regular season this week at Cambridge High School with contests against two Top 10-ranked opponents (Sequoyah #9-ranked and North Atlanta, also 5-0 in region, #4-ranked), with the latter against North Atlanta determining the #1-seed for the regional tournament to commence on April 12.
