Cambridge Track & Field Triumphs at North Georgia JV Invitational Wednesday, March 13th

On Wednesday, March 13, the Cambridge Track & Field team traveled the short distance to Milton High School for the North Georgia JV Invitational, and brought home the 1st place overall team trophy.  The Lady Bears won overall, and had enough of a margin, when added to the boys' 2nd place team score, to ensure a victory over host Milton High School.  The Bears had 44 athletes compete in 25 individual events, and six relay events, and earned five gold medals, eight silver medals, and five bronze medals to lock in the overall title for the evening meet.

As usual, the meet started with the field events and an early relay race.   In the long jump, Katarina Leavans ('21) jumped for a mark of 13'8" for first place, and Kennedy Daniels ('21) finished in sixth with a jump of 12'0.5".  For the boys, Christopher Beck('21) had a mark at 15'11" and Andrew Kochman('22) jumped for 14'10" for 9th and 15th places.   Only the girls competed in the high jump, finishing in 4th and 7th place, both earning points for the school.  In fourth was Jaiden Stidston('20), with a PR of 4'2", and in seventh was Liv Bollenbacher ('22) who also cleared 4'2" but it took more attempts resulting in the lower finish.  For the pole vault, Liv earned a silver medal for clearing 7'6", and Raleigh Matthews ('20) cleared a personal best height of 6'6" for fifth place.  Christian Graham('20) and Noah Prevallet ('22) competed for the boys, and Christian cleared 9' for a bronze medal,and Noah's 7' clearance earned the boys' team two more points with a 7th place finish.

In the throwing events, the Angelina Cofranceso('21) had a great evening, with a 24'7" mark in the discus and a 24'7" mark in the shot put to earn two bronze medals and add 12 points total to the Lady Bears' winning team score.  Also throwing in the discus were Anna Armanino('20), with a 45'7" mark for 17th, and Sanika Rane's('22) mark of 45' earned 18th place.   For the shot put, Madeline Matthews ('22) finished in 14th with a mark at 18'5" and Sanika Rane('22) ended in 16th with a 17'6" mark.   The boys' team earned points in both the discus and shot put as well.   Christian Wong ('21) finished in 6th in the discus with a mark at 82'2.5", followed in 7th by Julian Petty('20) with a mark of 81'4.5".  Tyrone Baines'('21) mark of 60'8" was in 18th.   For the shot put, Julian Petty came in fourth place with his throw reading a mark of 35'10.5".   Andrew Pardo('21) threw for a personal best mark of 28'10" and 20th place, while Tyrone Baines finished in 22 for a mark of 26'10".

The first running event of the meet was the 4x800 relay.   The girls' relay team finished in 6th place and the boys' team of Will & Cooper Carrow ('20), Braden Hobbs('22), and Ethan Blalock('20) brought home the first gold medal for the day with a time of 9:27.   The next race was the girls' 3200m, where the lady bears finished in 5th and 6th to continue driving up the team score.   Kyra Gould ('22) finished in 14:05, and Sarah Anderson ('20) finished in 6th in 14:22. 

In the 4x100m relay, the girls' team of Eva Ng('21), Alejandra Murillo('21), Kennedy Daniels('21), and Taylor Barnes('22) finished with the silver medal.   Finishing in sixth place for the boys' were Cade Ellington ('22), Christian Jones('21), Andrew Kochman('22), and Gilad Yehudai('20).   Following the relay were the 1600m races, in which Cambridge earned gold in both.   For the girls', Camila Montes('22) finished in 6:09 for gold, and Annika Phelps ('20) ran a personal best time of 6:17 for fourth place.   For the boys', Josh Gargan ('20) took home the gold medal with a winning time of 4:52, and fellow junior Anders Law earned silver with his finish in 5:04.

Sprints of 400m, 100m, and the 100/110m hurdles races followed.   Liv Bollenbacher ('22) ran a personal best 1:07 in the 400m for fourth place, and Sydney Todd ('21) came in with a time of 1:08 for 7th place.  The duo of Cooper Carrow ('20) and Kaine Dudley ('21) finished in 2nd and 5th for the boys' 400m dash with times of 54.04 and 55.31 seconds.    In the 100m dash, Taylor Barnes('22) and Eva Ng('21) finished five places apart in 5th and 10th, but less than half a second separated their times of 14.29 and 14.61 seconds.  Cade Ellington('22) and Gilad Yehudai('20) also finished less than half a second apart for 12th and 15th place in the boys' 100m, their times were 12.56 seconds and 12.91 seconds.   For the hurdles, the girls run 100 meters while jumping the hurdles and the boys run 110 meters.  Raleigh Matthews ('20) finished in 21.35 seconds for 5th place, and Sydney Todd ('21) finished in 9th with a time of 22.59s.  Adithya Chimalakonda ('20) finished in 9th place for the boys 110m hurdles, with a time of 22.93s  

Faith Hirschi ('22) and Olivia Sanford ('20) represented the Lady Bears in the 800m middle distance event, and finished in 3rd and 6th place to continue adding to the girls' team score.  Faith ran a personal record time of 2:42, and Olivia finished in 2:48.  For the boys' team, Caelan Jones ('21) earned a silver medal with his finish in 2:10.0, just edging out teammate Cole Suplee's ('21) third place finish in 2:10.5.   The 200m dash followed, with Liv Bollenbacher ('22) running a personal best 29.01 for fourth place, just out of the medals, and teammate Kennedy Daniels('21) finishing just over 1 second behind her in 30.06 seconds and 10th place.  Cade Ellington('22) and Gilad Yehudai('20) finished in 11th and 13th for the boys' 200m, with times of 25.82 and 26.23.  

The final hurdle race for the event was the 300m hurdles.    Taylor Barnes('22) finished in first to add another 10 points to the girls' total score with her time of 52.87s, and Raleigh Matthews('20) added three more points with her 6th place finish in 59.43s.   The boys finished just out of point scoring range.   Adithya Chimalakonda('20) earned a second 9th place finish with a time of 54.1 seconds, and teammate Abdullah Umar('21) finished in 11th with a time of 60.8 seconds.  The final distance race followed, being the boys' 3200m.  Boston Grant('21) and Oscar Ng('21) ran personal best times of 11:00 and 11:30 to finish in 2nd and fifth place, for 12 more points.

And the evening ended, as most track meets do, with the 4x400m relay race.   Both Cambridge teams finished with silver medals.  The girls' team of Liv Bollenbacher('22), Sydney Todd('21), Faith Hirschi('22) and Grace Counsell('21) finished in 4:33 for their silver medal, and the boys' team of Cooper Carrow('20), Jack Faulkenburg('22), Cade Ellington('22), and Kaine Dudley('21) finished in 3:46.

When the scores were added up, the girls' team finished in first place with 135 points, followed by Roswell High School with 117.   The boys' team had 96.5 points to finish in second to first place Milton with 117.5 points.   Adding up the totals, Cambridge Track & Field brought home the gold cup trophy with 231.5 points, to second place Milton with 186.5 points, a great way to end a very long Wednesday.   

The next meet for Track and Field would be the varsity Roswell Relays on  Saturday, March 16.   The girls' team has won this meet the last two years and are hoping for a three-peat.
