Varsity Boy's Tennis Drops Opener to Marist, 3-2 on Thursday, Feb. 18th

After a couple of weather related cancellations, the Cambridge Boys Tennis team kicked off the season with a close 3-2 loss to the Marist War Eagles on Thursday February 18th.

The Bears picked up wins at 1 and 2 doubles lines and lost three singles lines in well played matches across the board.

In singles, Carson Harrell (1S) hit big topspin forehands  but  fell in 2 sets to a very consistent opponent.  Drew Fruehauf (2S)  lost in a close 2 setter despite a strong baseline game.  The two players traded shots with several long rallies but Drew came up short in the end.  Ryan Edmiston (3S) lost in 2 sets to a crafty opponent.  Ryan served well in the match but his opponent had  a loopy, off speed game that ended up being very effective.

In doubles, Zac Hirschler and Joey Ladaga (1S) registered a season first win  in two sets.  The team relied on strong service games from Zac and a punishing baseline game on the backhand side from Joey to gain the win.  Kez Fitzgerald and Jason Weiner (2D) also picked up their first wins of the season with an easy two set victory.  Jason was very effective with his forehand groundies and Kez pounded his overheads for a well-deserved victory.

Next up for the Bears (all away) is Peachtree Ridge on Wednesday, Feb. 24th & Sequoyah on Thursday, Feb. 25th.  The Chattahoochee match scheduled for Monday, Feb. 22nd was cancelled and will be made up Monday, March 21st.

Go Bears!
