Bears Men's Tennis Drop Close Match in State Quarterfinals

Bears Men's Tennis Drop Close Match in State Quarterfinals

The Cambridge Men's Tennis team was eliminated from the State Playoffs with a 3-1 loss to the Pope Greyhounds Thursday afternoon May 1st at Pope.

All 5 lines played tough tennis.  The 1 doubles team of  Feirer/Ashcom continued their outstanding season play by winning in two sets despite falling behind 1-4 in the first.  The team once again was bolstered by the strong serve & volley of Fierer and the powerful groundies from Ashcom to account for the lone win.

The singles lines of Freuhauf, Harrell, & O'Donnell all lost in very tough matches.  Harrell played especially aggressive with some strong net play against an unconventional player, but in the end,  lost in a close sets.   The 2 dubs team of Lapid/Fitzgerald were off to a strong start and an early lead when the match came to an end.

The loss denies the Bears their revenge on earlier losses to the Greyhounds in the regular season and regions.  It also brings to an end the second year of Bears men's tennis.

Cambridge will graduate two players this year, Michael Feirer and Kaivon Mohseni.  They were honored appropriately at the end of year banquet as the first graduating seniors.  That said, the young team should have many returning starters and a fresh group of talent to work with next year for another strong run.

Congratulations on another great season.

Go Bears!
