Cambridge bows to Riverwood in Season Opener 48-0

The 2012 Cambridge football team made history at Cambridge High School Friday, August 31st as hundreds of school supporters gathered inside the stadium to watch the inaugural game.  It wasn't what many had hoped for as the Bears lost 48-0 to the Riverwood Raiders, but it was a memorable night for the opening game. The stands were full of enthusiastic fans waving blue spirit towels. Cambridge opened up with a strong kickoff return by#34 JD White followed by a gain by #5 Ricci Nuckles

Cambridge High School Principal Ed Spurka, Athletic Director Matt Lawless and other school staff were on hand at the game to help commemorate the event. "You have to start somewhere. It's a process.  With only two players having Friday night experience, Cambridge will get better with each game," said Spurka.  He also expressed his pride in the size and quality of the first ever Cambridge Marching Band, especially for a group which just formed.

Cambridge Head Football Coach Bennett, thrilled with the new facilities and loyal fans said the coaches will have to work harder to build player skills and develop strategy to match this young, growing team.  Coach Bennett looks as each game as an opportunity to get better.  "JD White and AJ Campbell stepped it up for this game as examples for the rest of the team. This team will continue to work hard and mature," said Bennett.

NEXT GAME: SEPT 14th 7:30pm at Cambridge Stadium vs. South Forsyth

The Bears are off Friday, September 7th, but will return to Cambridge Stadium on September 14th at 7:30 p.m. to host South Forsyth.

The CHS Cheerleading squad is calling for a "PINK OUT" and is asking everyone to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.  The Cheerleaders and volunteers  will be collecting donations during the game.
