Varsity Football Crushes North Atlanta 42-3 Friday, Oct. 3rd

A packed crowd got more than they bargained for in the Bears' defeat against North Atlanta, 42-3.

The high scoring evening started off with enthusiastic recognition of the Cambridge feeder cheer and football teams.  The marching band played a flawless rendition of the right song and then moved the crowd with the Cambridge alma mater.  Game co-captains Tate Prezzano, Hunter Smith, Trey Wolfe, and Eddie Aganov represented the Bears at mid-field to meet the officials and the Warrior captains.

JD White got everyone's attention with a game opening, 85-yard kick off return to score the first touchdown.  On the Bears' kick off, the North Atlanta receiver truggled to control the ball which was recovered by Nathan Kish, putting the Bears' offense back on the field.  Quarterback Brian Moore quickly led his team to 14-0.

Wide receiver Spencer Gaddis grabbed 2 passes from Moore for 17 yards.  Juniors Michael Pellegrino and Trey Wolfe added up the tackles to stop the Warriors.

Wide receiver John Hurst and kicker Clayton Hammer were the high scorers in the game.  Hurst totaled 128 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Hammer hit 100% of his opportunities with 6 PATs and a 30-yard field goal for a total of 9 points.

Sophomore running back Kaelyn Bird reached 45 yards in several determined rushing efforts which gained the loud appreciation of the crowd.

Post-game comments by Head Coach Craig Bennett emphasized his team would need to focus hard to prepare for next week's game at Sprayberry but said it is nice to have a 4-1 record. Although last week's near-win against Kell, who is ranked third in the state, was probably more satisfying, Bennett said he was happy to have another 'w' in the books.

Bennett said his team has a tendency to play its best against the team's toughest opponents. "This team has been the underdog for the last 2 years and has been trained to work hard in a competitive environment. The players have been built to rise to the occasion, which they did against Kell."  Another impressive win for the Cambridge varsity football team.

Be sure to get our early and head to Sprayberry this Friday, October 10th, at 7:30 p.m., as the Bears head to Marietta to take on the Yellow Jackets.

Go  Bears!!
