Cross Country Bears Run Strong in Coach Wood Invitational, Prep for Region 7 Meet

The Cambridge Bears joined 60 teams at the last cross country invitational meet of the season, the Nike/Fleet Feet Coach Wood Invitational held on October 14th in Gainesville, GA. 

The Bears, named most generous 6A team for donating the most cans to their food drive, raced against nationally ranked competition on the spectator friendly 2-loop course.  Five Bears met Elite performance qualifications:  Jack Filan (16:25), Ashley Sechrest (20:00), Delaney Goodell (20:30), Lily Elston (20:39) and Izzy Filipek (20:57).

The 8th place Varsity Girls team was led by Sechrest ('20), who medaled in 23rd place, and also included scoring from Goodell ('19), Eltson ('18), Filipek ('21) and Chloe Phelps ('18).  The JV Girls team placed 12th overall with scoring team members Sarah Anderson ('20), Liz Willis ('19), Michaela Prevallet ('19), Emma Flynn ('21) and Julianna Finelli ('20).  Prevallet and Flynn both ran personal best times of 23:52 and 23:56, respectively.  The Open Girls team placed 11th with Lauren Harris ('19), Lily Parzych ('20), Camryn Quam ('21), Kai Abiola ('18) and Amber Brown ('19) contributing to the scoring.  Quam (26:07) and Ashley Smith ('21; 29:18) also ran personal best times.

For the Varsity Boys Filan ('19) medaled in 12th place and Chris Anderson ('18), Carson Ertwine ('19), Anders Law ('20) and Jack Donovan ('19) scored for the 6th place team.  The 9th place JV Boys scoring came from teammates Tanner LeeMaster ('18), Adam Schaich ('20), William Knapp ('18), Kaine Dudley ('21) and Colin Shin ('20).  The 6th place Open Boys team included Rishi Murudkar ('19) and Colby Jones ('21), who each earned a top 25 finish, Yahya Merchant ('20), David Allan ('19), who ran a 20:34 personal best and Noah Bouton ('19).  Matthew Meeker ('20; 22:16), Robert Townsend ('21; 22:31) and Jack Quisito ('21; 27:07) also ran personal best times on Saturday.

The XC Bears next race on Tuesday, October 24th, in the 6A Region 7 meet at Webb Bridge Park in Alpharetta.  The first race starts at 11am.
