Cambridge Varsity Volleyball Sweeps Dunwoody and Pope in Regional Play

Cambridge Varsity Volleyball Sweeps Dunwoody and Pope in Regional Play

In the first two, of what will be 8 regional matches, Cambridge set out for Dunwoody High School to take on Dunwoody and Pope, Tuesday, August 30th.

vs. Dunwoody

In a hotly contested first set, Cambridge and Dunwoody exchanged points back and forth up until the midpoint of the set, where Dunwoody gradually began to pull away. With Dunwoody leading 23 to 19, coaches Bunting and Smalls called timeout. It was then that Cambridge began their comeback, erasing 3 of the 4 points before Dunwoody called a timeout of their own. Back in action, Cambridge tied Dunwoody at 23. Following a close line call, Cambridge went up 24 to 23 and closed out the set with the next point.

In the second set, Cambridge took a significant lead, and by as much as 10 points with what seemed to be a different Dunwoody than the one Cambridge faced earlier. But not to give up without a fight, Dunwoody closed that gap to within 5 points, but that was all that was left in the tank. Cambridge beat Dunwoody in straight sets (25-23, 25-17).

vs. Pope

Pope proved to be much tougher on the court than on paper; quick and athletic, if not particularly tall. Unlike the Dunwoody match, most of the points in both of these sets came in chunks. Just when the Lady Bears seemed to take control, Pope battled back. In the end, Cambridge scored when the had to, beating Pope, like Dunwoody, in straight straight sets (25-18, 25-21).

Contributions to the victories came from all four corners of the lineup, although it is likely the coaches would say they did not bring their A-game this evening. For team and player stats from these matches, go to www.maxpreps.com. Stats should be posted in about a week.

The Lady Bears are now 12-7 on the season and 2-0 in regional play. They take the court this Thursday, September 1st when they face formidable North Gwinnett and North Forsyth on the road at North Forsyth High School. Match times are 6:00pm and 7:00pm Hope to see you there.

Go Bears!
