Cambridge Varsity Volleyball Defeats Kell, Forsyth Central on Senior Night Tues, Sept. 15th

The Lady Bears varsity volleyball team continued their march this past Tuesday, September 15th toward their best season in Cambridge history, carrying their 14-4 record onto the court against regional foes, Kell and Forsyth Central.

The Lady Bears played a well-balanced match versus their first opponent, the Kell Longhorns, with all members of the team making key contributions when needed. Cambridge defeated the Longhorns in straight sets (25-16, 25-13).

The Bears serving efforts were led by sophomore, Anna Youngs—rattling off 13—along with an ace. Junior, Olivia Hansen, led the team with 18 assists and was joined in the double digit category by junior, Regan Swift, who delivered 10 kills out of 17 attacks. Following this victory, and in traditional fashion, players and spectators celebrated the seniors from all three teams, including our very own Alex Wright, Eileen Hardy and Madison Ulman.

The Lady Bears next faced off against the Forsyth Central Bulldogs—who found themselves dominated by this Bears' squad—and closed out the match, again, in straight sets (25-6, 25-6).

Serving was the storyline for this match, as the Bulldogs were challenged to deal with the serves of two of the Lady Bears sophomores, Shelby Luxton and Anna Youngs. Luxton lead the charge with 16 serves and 4 aces, followed closely by Youngs, with 14 serves and 5 aces; 12 of which came in set 2.

The Lady Bears did what they came to do, inching that much closer to a number 1 seed in the regional tournament. The Lady Bears are now 16-4 on the season and 4-0 in the region.

The next action takes place this Saturday, September 19th, as the Lady Bears travel to South Forsyth to participate in the South Forsyth Play Date. The Lady Bears will face Harris County, North Cobb, Landmark Christian and 6A #1 ranked Johns Creek. The Lady Bears will have a chance to test their game against the best the state has to offer.

Wednesday, September 23rd, the Lady Bears will return to South Forsyth to take on the 6A 5th ranked, South Forsyth War Eagles in a 5 set match.

Go Bears!
