Cambridge Volleyball Advance to Sweet 16 of State Championship

With a win over DeKalb County's Druid Hills High School Thursday, Oct. 16th, Cambridge's Lady Bears Volleyball advance to Round Two of the State Playoffs. Cambridge took the Red Devils in a best of five series, winning 25-22, 25-9 and 25-20.

The Bears shot down Druid Hills with 17 kills from contributions made by the front and back rows. Freshman Sterling Hines was at the top of the leaderboard with 4 kills, while Sophomore Olivia Hansen and Anna Youngs both delivered 3 kills each. Junior Alex Wright and Sophomore Lauren Swift each slammed 2 kills and Junior Madison Ulman, Freshman Emma Todd and Sophomore Regan Swift earned one kill a piece.

Freshman Shelby Luxton stymied the Red Devils defense with 4 aces, and helped secure a wide margin of victory in game two with a 12-serve run. The Bears delivered 10 aces across two games, led by Sterling Hines and Olivia Hansen who each posted 2 aces and Madison Ulman with one ace. On defense, Anna Youngs brought up 8 digs, while Shelby Luxton and Olivia Hansen delivered 7 digs each. Sophomore Lauren Swift, Senior Alex Wright and Freshman Allie deCatalogne each posted one block.

The Bears play in the next round on Tuesday, Oct. 21st at Allatoona, beginning at 6:30pm.
