Lady Bears Volleyball on Hunt for Winning Season
The Lady Bears Volleyball team delivered key wins against Duluth (25-23, 25-10), North Forsyth (26-24, 25-20) and Sprayberry High Schools (19-25, 25-5, 25-9) last Thursday Sept. 5th at home and Tuesday night Sept. 10th away, bringing the varsity team within two matches of a winning season. The Bears only loss was to Pope 21-25, 19-25, a perennial volleyball powerhouse. 

Alex Wright led a strong defensive effort against North Forsyth, chalking up 10 digs, with Madison Ulman credited with 4 and Lauren Swift and Regan Swift both with 3. The offense kept swinging to eventually take the closely contested first set. Regan Swift had six monster kills, with Lauren Swift earning 5 and Alex Wright credited with 4 kills. Regan Swift (3 aces) and Madison Ulman (2 aces) rocketed unreturnable serves to the North Forsyth team, helping to close out the match and clinching the Bears victory.

Against Duluth, Alex Wright was a force of nature. The Sophomore came up with 13 huge digs – followed by Lauren Swift (7), Madison Ulman (5) and Eileen Hardy (4) – and was an offensive leader, credited with 5 kills over the two-set match. Lauren Swift earned 6 kills, Olivia Hansen earned 2, while Eileen Hardy and Lexi Paganelli each were credited with 1 kill. Madison Ulman led service aces with 3, followed by Alex Wright and Olivia Hansen each earning 2. Setter Olivia Hansen had 29 assists throughout the evening.

Tuesday night's play against Sprayberry was a competition of aces. Winning in three sets, the Bears landed 12 unreturnable serves in all, led by Lauren Swift with 5 aces and Madison Ulman with 4 aces. Alex Wright is credited with 6 kills, Lexi Paganelli had 4 kills and Olivia Hansen had 2 kills to give the Bears a decisive 20-point lead over Sprayberry. Lauren Swift led in digs with 15, while Paige Clark had 7 digs. The Bears, ultimately falling to Pope in two hard-fought sets, managed an aggressive front-line offensive attack. Lauren Swift had 7 kills, Regan Swift had 6 kills, Lexi Paganelli swung in 3 and Alex Wright sank 2 kills.
