In one weekend, the Cambridge Varsity Volleyball team showed they are on their way from being cubs to bears. Key wins against North Hall (25-18, 27-25), Jackson County (25-15, 25-8) and Forsyth Central (25-23, 25-12) at the Forsyth Challenge Volleyball Tournament marked the evolution of a young team into a competitive program.
Winning eight of 14 games Friday and Saturday (3-3 matches), the "mighty dozen" earned a spot in the tournament's silver bracket championship. The Bears ultimately fell to powerhouse Collins Hill after roaring back after a first set loss with a second set win of 25-22, then dropping the third set tie-breaker 11-15.
One of six returning varsity players, Alex Wright collected 23 digs followed by Sophomore Defensive Specialist Madison Ulman with 18 digs. Also a returning player, Ulman served up 4 aces to help the team deliver a victory over Jackson County and delivered 1 kill from the back line. Freshman Setter Olivia Hansen was credited with 75 assists throughout the six- match tournament.
"It was good to see the things we've been working on in practice translate to a match. I'm looking forward to the rest of our season," says Varsity Volleyball Head Coach Katie Johnson.
