Lady Bears Volleyball Plays 5 Matches at Ga. High School Tournament

The Bears Volleyball team tackled an entire day of rigorous competition at the Georgia High School Tournament on Saturday.  The ladies played a total of eleven games and five matches.  Defense was strong as the Bears took on Area opponent, Sequoyah.  Senior Amelia Phillips challenged the front line with two blocks while Freshman, Madison Ulman and Senior, Haley Ackun each pushed five digs.  Despite the Bears' improvements since the last match against the Chiefs, Sequoyah came out on top taking the first match of the day.

In a fantastic match against Southeast Whitfield, the Bears showed a great all-around effort.  Freshman Eileen Hardy had a season-high seven kills with zero errors.  Alex Wright played her role in the back row accumulating five digs alongside Libero, Haley Ackun who had seven, and Junior Annie Jackson who had five.  Unfortunately after a relentless fight, the Bears dropped the second match in pool play placing them in the Bronze Division.

The Bears took on West Hall in their first ever three-game match.  Senior Samantha Wardach played an integral role in every game, compiling a total of three blocks, three kills, two aces, and one dig.  Outside hitters Hardy and Wright each had seven kills.  Ackun managed defensive double digits with ten digs.  After an exhaustive effort, the Bears attained their first win of the day.

It was another great match for the Bears as they challenged familiar opponent, Centennial in the Bronze Semifinals.  Wardach showed up defensively with another trifecta of blocks.  Despite a few mild injuries in the second game, the Bears put up a great fight but eventually fell, tallying a score of 26-24.  Unfortunately for the Bears, Centennial took both games and moved on to the Bronze Championship but the day was not over for Cambridge.

The Bears took on West Hall once more in the last match of the day.  The Spartans came back with vengeance and took both games and the match against the Bears.

During last week, the Lady Bears team played a total of 19 sets, culminating with the 11-set tournament on Saturday.

The team will travel to Pope tomorrow, September 11, to take on Sprayberry at 5:30 as well as the Home team at 6:30.

The JV team will take on Fellowship Christian and Kings Ridge on Wednesday September 12, in the first ever match in the Cambridge gym.  The first match will begin at 5:00pm.

Come out and show your support!  Go Bears!
