Canton, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears won 8-0 in a region game, against the Creekview High School Grizzlies, on Friday, March 18, 2022.
The Lady Bears traveled to Creekview High School on Friday night to play the Grizzlies in a region game. The first half action picked up quickly for Cambridge. Just five minutes into the game, Sophomore Aurora Gaines received the ball from Sophomore Natalie Leibel, dribbled quickly around a defender, and took a long, low shot to the back of the net. Not even two minutes later, Junior Jordynn Dudley would make a fast past to Sophomore Natalie Leibel who shot the ball into the net putting the Lady Bears on top 2-0 early in the game. Leibel who took part in both of the first two goals for Cambridge has 9 goals and 15 assists so far this season. Creekview attempted to answer with a few shots on goal, one which was strong, but went high over the net.
The Grizzlies tried to stop the Bear attack and saved a strong goal attempt by Junior Jordynn Dudley. However, 15 minutes into the first half, Senior Captain Ella Ciardullo made a beautiful pass across the front of the net in perfect position for Dudley to make a one touch goal for the finish. The score was 3-0 with plenty of time left in the first half.
Senior Ella Crawley played incredibly smart, and fast, defense throughout the first half. The Grizzlies offense were often denied by Crawley in their attempts to get through to the goal. Later in the first half, Crawley would keep the ball, dribbling it toward the midfield and making an expert pass to Senior Captain Ella Ciardullo. Ciardullo's shot resulted in the first of two consecutive corner kicks. Both corners were handled beautifully by Sophomore Natalie Leibel despite a large practice net which crowded her space. With 15 minutes left in the first half, Ella Ciardullo made a fast 40 yard run around the Creekview defenders, her shot on goal was saved but not before she shocked the entire defensive line with her speed.
With only minutes left in the first half, the game began to get physical. Players on both teams were pushing each other around on the field. After several verbal warnings from the refs, with only 5 minutes left, Sophomore Natalie Leibel placed yet another corner kick in front of the net where her sister, Senior Captain Kate Leibel was waiting to head the ball right into the net. The halftime buzzer would sound with the score 4-0, Bears on top.
The Lady Bears took their momentum into the second half. One minute after the start of play, Freshman Chandler Browning made a beautiful pass right up the middle to Junior Jordynn Dudley who scored easily. The game would continue in this way with three more goals. The first from Natalie Leibel off of a corner kick – her second of the night. Ten minutes later, Senior Captains Kate Leibel and Ella Ciardullo would connect for a strong goal from Ciardullo. Ciardullo would continue her offensive streak in this game just three minutes later with an assist to Jordynn Dudley – Dudley's third goal of the night. The game ended with a score of 8-0.
The Lady Bears host River Ridge High School for a region game on Tuesday March 22nd at 6:00 pm.
