Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Lose to Denmark 1-0, Tuesday, Feb. 15th

Milton, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears, played a strong defensive game but had to settle for a loss vs the Denmark High School Danes, 0-1, on February 15, 2022.

From the first whistle, the Danes were winning the possession battle.  The game was played mostly in the Bears' midfield and defense.  Fifteen minutes into the first half of play, Senior Captain Ella Ciardullo was tripped inside the box and was given a penalty kick opportunity.  The Denmark goalkeeper was able to save the shot and the game remained scoreless.  With 15 minutes left in the half, the Danes lined up for a corner kick.  The ball went back and forth between the Denmark players when Senior Captain Olivia Barfield came out and made a diving save.  With less than 10 minutes left in the half, a Danes offensive player dribbled the ball quickly around the Bears and took a shot from the right side of the net that sailed past Barfield for a goal.  The score remained 0-1 until halftime.

The Lady Bears Defense, led by Senior Ella Crawley, played their strongest game this season.  Crawley's speed and smart decisions while under pressure saved Senior Captain and Goalkeeper Barfield on several occasions.  Sophomores Kaitlyn Clark and Natalie Leibel also fought hard against the Danes offense.  Barfield worked tirelessly protecting the scoreboard making 10 spectacular saves, on 18 shots from the Denmark offense, throughout the game.

The Lady Bears had several opportunities up front but were unable to capitalize and the final buzzer sounded with the score remaining 0-1.

The Lady Bears travel across town to play the Alpharetta Raiders on Friday, February 18th at 6:00 pm. Let's Go Bears!
