Cambridge Girls Varsity Soccer Wins 10-2 at Heritage, Friday, February 4th

Conyers, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears dominated the Heritage High School Patriots 10-2 on Friday, February 4, 2022.

The action got started quickly for the Bears when just 2 minutes into the game, Senior Captain Ella Ciardullo dribbled across the field right to left and took her first of eleven shots on goal for the night, she would take her second shot just 1 minute later.  Neither of these attempts found the back of the net.  A short time later, the ball was being controlled by the Patriots offense, a shot was taken and saved by Senior Captain Olivia Barfield.  Barfield's save deflected the ball out of the goal and it bounced off the Heritage forward flying quickly back toward the goal and over Barfield's head for a Heritage goal.  The Lady Bears went down 0-1 early.

Over the next ten minutes of the game, the Lady Bears were awarded 2 corner kicks, a free kick, and took several shots however the scoreboard still read 0-1.  With 26 minutes left in the first half, Junior Forward Katelyn Hardwick received a ball, turned and shot for an unassisted goal tying up the game at one score apiece.  Just a few minutes later, Junior Forward Gaby Sanchez would find Senior Ella Ciardullo who scored easily putting the Bears on top 2-1.

The Lady Bears seemed to find their rhythm at this point in the game.  Several Bears took advantage of their opportunities and made shots on the goal.  Ella Gehrig, Katelyn Hardwick, Ella Ciardullo all tried their turn at cranking up the score.  With 16 minutes left in the half, Sophomore Midfielder Ella Gehrig assisted Freshman Midfielder Maddy Ward, scoring her first Varsity goal, bringing the score to 3-1. A short time later, with 12 minutes left in the half, Junior Gaby Sanchez found Senior Captain Ella Ciardullo for their second connection of the night bringing the score to 4-1 in the Lady Bears' favor. Just 1 minute after that goal, Junior Katelyn Hardwick made a nice pass to Junior Gaby Sanchez who took a beautiful shot that was saved by the Heritage Goalie.  With 10 minutes left on the clock for the first half, Heritage would cut the lead to 4-2 on a cross in front of the goal.  The Lady Bears would go into halftime with the scoreboard reading 5-2 after a late goal by Junior Forward Gaby Sanchez

The Bears controlled the ball and the field for the entire first half of play.  By the end of the game, the Lady Bears took 33 shots on the Heritage Goalkeeper and were awarded 9 corner kicks.  The second half was a repeat of the first as the Bears kept up their pace and intensity.  The game ended with a score of 10-2 – there were 5 goals scored in each half.

The Lady Bears host Dunwoody on Tuesday, February 8th and Crosstown Rivals Milton on Friday, February 11th.  Both games start at 6:00 pm.
