Cambridge Girls Soccer Shuts Out Sequoyah on Senior Night, Tuesday, March 30th

Milton, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears won 7-0 in a region game, against the Sequoyah High School Chiefs, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.  The game was followed by a recognition ceremony for the graduating student athletes.

Tuesday night's game was dedicated to honoring our six Senior players and their accomplishments on and off the field.  It seemed perfect then, when Senior Defender and Captain, Maggie Smith, opened the game with a 20-yard shot into the back of the net.  Smith's goal put the Bears on top 1-0 within the first minute of the game.

The Chiefs could not keep up with the pace of our Lady Bears.  Within the next five minutes the Bears scored twice.  The first came as Freshman Natalie Leibel passed a ball from the midfield into the middle where Sophomore Jordynn Dudley was ready for it and scored off her left foot into the center of the net.  Less than three minutes later, Jordynn Dudley passed the ball from the right side of the field to Junior Ella Ciardullo who scored easily. The Bears were leading 3-0 with 33:00 minutes left in the half.

Ella Ciardullo would score again a few minutes later, again off a pass from Jordynn Dudley.  Dudley's pass allowed Ciardullo to make a one touch shot and the Lady Bears went up 4-0.  Over the next 10 minutes the Bears offense owned the ball and would take several shots, but the Chiefs goalie was working hard and made several saves hoping to keep the score where it was.  With 19 minutes left in the half, Jordynn Dudley won that battle and scored her second goal of the night making the score 5-0.  But the Chiefs' goalie would not give up making a huge diving save to stop a beautiful goal attempt by Ella Ciardullo with 14 minutes left to go in the half.  Three minutes later Jordynn Dudley scored her third goal of the night, making the score 6-0.  This was Dudley's 5th hat trick of the season.

As the first half came to an end, the Lady Bears would score one more.  With three minutes left to play, Ella Ciardullo took a shot and the goalie saved it but without control.  Sophomore Katelyn Hardwick came in from the corner and finished with a pop into the net.  The Lady Bears would go into half time with a score of 7-0.  With a lead so large the second half would only be 20 minutes long.  There were no goals recorded in the abbreviated second half of play and the Bears won the game with a final score of 7-0.

Immediately following the game, both the Boys and Girls teams recognized their seniors.  It was a heartfelt ceremony with each Senior being escorted by their family members and loved ones.  Their academic and athletic accomplishments were announced, as well as their plans after Cambridge.  The Lady Bears are so proud to have played alongside their six fabulous graduating Seniors – Elle Cheevers (Defense), Abby Fields (Goalie and Captain), Kyndall Jenkins (Defense), Safiya Said (Midfield), Maggie Smith (Defense and Captain) and Nia Worrell (Defense).  Congratulations to all!

After Spring Break, the Lady Bears will host St. Pius High School on Thursday, April 15th at 6:00 pm.

Let's Go Bears!
