Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Shuts Out Riverwood; Clinch #2 Seed in GHSA State Playoffs

Milton, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears won 3-0 in a region game, against the Riverwood High School Raiders, on Friday, March 26, 2021.  With this win the Bears clinched the number 2 seed position in the Georgia State playoffs.

On a Friday night boasting perfect weather for watching a soccer game, the Bears would take only 10 minutes into the first half to get on the scoreboard.  Freshman Natalie Leibel sent a header to the sideline where Sophomore Jordynn Dudley was ready to receive it.  Dudley took the ball on her own and shot it on the goal from 10 yards out for the first goal of the night.

The rest of the first half offered fast work by the offense and good strong defense.  The Bears midfield were making smart passes.  With 17 minutes left in the half, Jordynn Dudley took the ball toward the goal.  Dudley made several twists and turns with the ball, losing it and winning it back with each step.  She was finally able to get a good pass off to Junior Ella Ciardullo who was tripped and awarded a free kick but would not score.  With 10 minutes left in the half, Ella Cirardullo was on the run with the ball and was fouled by a Raider defender.  Jordynn Dudley took the free kick, but it went over the cross bar for no goal.  The Lady Bears went into halftime winning 1-0.

Two minutes into the second half, Jordynn Dudley made an explosive run on her own, leaping over the goalie who came out to make the save, and scored into an open net.  Four minutes later, Jordynn Dudley scored again on a pass from the midfield by Ella Ciardullo.  Dudley received the ball on the left side of the net and drilled it in making the score 3-0.  This is Jordynn Dudley's 4th Hat Trick of the season.

This game was a battle of free kicks and shots on goal between the two teams.  The Lady Bears took 15 free kicks, and the Raiders took 16 free kicks throughout the game.  Junior Olivia Barfield made an impressive 9 saves on 14 shots on net. While the Lady Bears took 12 shots on goal scoring three.  The final score of the game was 3-0.

The Lady Bears will play their final regular season game at home on Tuesday, March 30th at 6:00 pm vs. Sequoyah High School.  They will recognize the six fabulous graduating Seniors – Elle Cheevers (Defense), Abby Fields (Goalie), Kyndall Jenkins (Defense), Safiya Said (Midfield), Maggie Smith (Defense) and Nia Worrell (Defense).
