Cambridge Girls Varsity Soccer Take Road Win over River Ridge, Tuesday, March 23rd

Woodstock, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears won 6-2 in a region game, against the River Ridge High School Knights, on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

The opening two minutes of the game vs the River Ridge Knights had two saves, one for Olivia Barfield, the first of three great saves on the night for the Junior goalie, and one for the Knights on a quick shot by Sophomore Gaby Sanchez.  This would be the trend for the next 10 minutes of the game.  Six minutes into the first half, Sophomore Jordynn Dudley made a perfectly placed long pass to Sophomore Katelyn Hardwick who made a run with the ball, was well defended in the box.  Hardwick took a shot, but it was saved.  One minute later, Jordynn Dudley took a shot of her own that resulted in a corner kick.  With 30 minutes left in the first half, Junior Ella Ciardullo took the first free kick of the night for the Lady Bears but did not score.

The scoreboard did not stay empty for long.  Sophomore forward Jordynn Dudley score her first 2 goals of the night in the next 8 minutes of the game.  The first goal was a nice pass from Ella Ciardullo.  Dudley received the ball and worked her way past the defenders.  With the goalie coming out to try and stop her, Dudley easily shot the ball into the back of the net.  Dudley's second goal of the night was a header off a corner kick by Freshman, Natalie Leibel.  With 20 minutes left in the first half, the Bears were up with a score of 2-0.

The clock was counting down the last minute of the half when Ella Ciardullo made a pass from the midfield to Jordynn Dudley who took the ball to net on her own and scored with 40 seconds left.  This is Jordynn Dudley's third hat trick of the season.  The Lady Bears went into halftime up 3-0.

Even with a comfortable lead in hand, the Lady Bears came out in the second half competing.  Ten minutes into the half, Jordynn Dudley raced up the sideline and scored an unassisted goal to make it 4-0 Bears.  Just 2 minutes later, Natalie Leibel made a smart pass to Ella Ciardullo who scored easily.

The Knights fought back and scored 2 goals in 3 minutes.  But the Bears defense did not make it easy for them.  On the first goal, the River Ridge wing made a well-placed cross to her forward.  Olivia Barfield got her hand on the ball in an awesome save attempt, but it was not quite enough.  Their second goal was hard earned while defensive Junior Katelyn Byrne tracked the offensive player with excellent pressure all the way down the field toward the goal.  The Knights player was able to spin away from Byrne and get a shot off with her left foot.  The score with 14 minutes left in the game was 5-2.

Not long after the River Ridge goals, the Bears would answer when Jordynn Dudley controlled the ball up the sideline and got around a defender to make a hard cross to Sophomore Maddie Smith who finished with a hard shot into the net.  The Lady Bears won with a final score of 6-2.

The Lady Bears play at home on Friday, March 26th at 6:00 pm for a region game against Riverwood High School.  Let's Go Bears!
