Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Shuts Out Creekview 6-0, Friday, March 19th

Milton, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears won 6-0 at home in a region game, against the Creekview High School Grizzlies, on Friday, March 19, 2021.

The Creekview Grizzlies came to Cambridge High School on Friday night to play the Bears in a region game.  The first half was slower than we are used to seeing from our Lady Bears.  The Bears took several shots on goal and three corner kicks but could not capitalize on their opportunities.  Possession was split between both teams and at the end of the half, the score was 0-0.

The Lady Bears may have gone into the Bears Den disappointed, but they came out firing from all cylinders.  The second half told a much different story than the first half.  From the opening whistle, the Bears played faster and took control of the game.  Two minutes into second half play, Sophomore Jordynn Dudley received a ball from the midfield and quickly passed it to Junior Ella Ciardullo who was making a fast run toward the goal.  A battle with the defender followed, but Ciardullo would force the ball into the net putting the Bears on the board 1-0.  Just one minute later, an offensive play started with a strong header from Junior Katelyn Byrne to the feet of Jordynn Dudley who passed the ball out to Sophomore Gaby Sanchez on the left wing.  Sanchez passed the ball back to Byrne who made a one touch look across to Jordynn Dudley, but it would go just past the Sophomore.  Saving the play, Freshman Natalie Leibel made a quick step to the ball for control.  Leibel's first touch was deflected by a Grizzlie player and right toward Sophomore Katelyn Hardwick, who stepped up to the ball and made a strong shot to the back of the net.  The Lady Bears were up 2-0.

With 27 minutes left to play, Jordynn Dudley broke through the Creekview line and was on her way toward the goal with the ball.  She was pulled by a Creekview player while she was taking her shot.  The shot did not go into the net and there was no call by the referee.  A minute later, Katelyn Hardwick took a shot that was saved by the goalie, but the goalie lost it, Jordynn Dudley charged the net and took another shot for a second effort, but it did not go in.  Dudley would not stop there, 3 minutes later she received a ball from Freshman Natalie Leibel and made a short, quick breakaway to score her first goal of the night.  The Lady Bears were up 3-0.

The Creekview team took shots of their own, however the majority were from 20 yards or more seemingly because they could not get past the strong Bears defense toward the goal.  Olivia Barfield was well protected by the defenders and only had to make 4 saves on the night.

With 20 minutes left to play, Gaby Sanchez made a smart pass to Ella Ciardullo who worked her way around the defense and took a shot pulling the goalie out toward her, the ball missed the net across the front and Katelyn Hardwick charged up and popped it into the net bringing the score up 4-0.  Three minutes later Jordynn Dudley was first to the ball on a throw in, turned and expertly worked past the defender to make a perfect shot into the net.  The scoreboard read 5-0 in favor of the Bears.

The final goal of the night was scored with under 9 minutes left to play.  Gaby Sanchez took the ball out of the backfield and made a perfectly timed long pass to Junior Ella Ciardullo who worked her way to the net and scored with a beautiful shot.  The Lady Bears won with a final score of 6-0.

The Lady Bears go on the road to River Ridge High School for a region game on Tuesday March 23rd at 6:00 pm.
