Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Take Second Region Win at Home vs. Chattahoochee, Tuesday, March 2nd

Milton, Georgia – In their second Region game of the season, the Cambridge Lady Bears won 5-0 against the Chattahoochee Cougars, on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

The Lady Bears took the field in their first home game since February 5th.  During the first half of the game, the Bears executed good passes and stole balls from the opposition.  Game play was even between both sides of the field.  With 5 minutes left in the first half, Freshman Natalie Leibel put an unassisted ball into the back of the net with a hard shot, putting the Lady Bears on the board first.  Play continued and with just seconds left in the first half, Junior Katelyn Byrne took a beautifully placed free kick from 30 yards out that just missed the goal. The Lady Bears would go into half time with a score of 1-0.

The second half told a different story right from the start.  Just 5 minutes into the half, a Chattahoochee player grabbed Sophomore Jordynn Dudley around the neck and brought her to the ground while in the box. This resulted in a red card and an ejection for #12 of Chattahoochee.  The Cougars would have to play the remainder of the game short one player.  Jordynn Dudley took the penalty kick, which easily went past the goalie making the score 2-0.

Just 5 minutes later, Jordynn Dudley would take another shot causing the Hooch goalie to come out of the net to block it.  Sophomore Gaby Sanchez came up around the goalie and tapped the loose ball into the goal.  The Lady Bears were up 3-0.

The clock still showed more than 20 minutes left to play when Junior Defender Ella Crawley got a play started with a great pass up the right sideline to Freshman Natalie Leibel who passed it to Sophomore Katelyn Hardwick in the middle.  Hardwick, well defended, tapped the ball to Junior Ella Ciardullo who used her excellent speed to get around two defenders and made a hard shot to the right side of the goal putting the Lady Bears on top 4-0.

The action continued throughout the game with several corner and free kicks.  In all, the Lady Bears had 7 free kicks and 8 corners.  With 23 minutes left, Natalie Leibel took a beautiful shot that hit the cross bar.  A few minutes later, a Chattahoochee defender took down Gaby Sanchez and the Lady Bears were awarded a penalty kick.  Junior Ella Ciardullo took the shot and scored for her second goal of the night. The Bears would win with a final score of 5-0.

The Lady Bears will host Parkview High School on Thursday, March 4th at 6:00 pm.
