Cambridge Girls Varsity Soccer Loses to Roswell, Thursday, February 11th

Roswell, Georgia – In an extremely physical game, the Cambridge Lady Bears lost to Roswell High School Hornets 1-0 on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

The first half offered lots of good passing from the Lady Bears.  Just 2 minutes into the game, Cambridge took a corner kick, which after some action around the goal was allowed a second effort, but the Bears would not score.  Just about halfway through the first half, Katelyn Byrne took her first free kick of the night which sailed high over the net.  With less than 20 minutes to go in the first half, Ella Ciardullo took a hard shot directly at the Roswell Goalie for no score.  In a last effort of the half, Gaby Sanchez passed to Natalie Leibel who shot just wide of the net.  The Lady Bears defense played strong and the score at the end of the first half was tied 0-0.

Second half play was faster and a lot more physical than the first.  The Roswell Hornets scored ten minutes into the second half on a breakaway.  The action got heated and the Roswell Hornets were awarded a penalty kick just four minutes later, but Bears Goalkeeper, Olivia Barfield, blocked it for the save keeping the Lady Bears in the game at 1-0.

In all, the Lady Bears had 10 shots on goal and 12 free kicks but could not find the back of the net despite their tough play on the field.  Olivia Barfield made 4 great saves and was shot on 10 times by the Roswell Hornets.

The Lady Bears go on the road for the next three games playing at Milton (2/19), South Forsyth (2/23) and Centennial (2/26).  Their next home game is March 2nd vs. Chattahoochee High School.
