Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Settles for Scoreless Tie vs. Denmark, Tuesday, February 9th

Alpharetta, Georgia – The Cambridge Lady Bears left Denmark High School with a tie of 0-0 on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

The game started slower than previous games, but Senior Captain, Maggie Smith got the action going with a fast run against a Denmark player down the sideline.  Only nine minutes into the game, Junior Katelyn Byrne took her first free kick of the night, the Bears were denied the goal on the kick and Junior, Kate Leibel attempted a strong header to follow up but was unsuccessful.  Junior, Ella Ciardullo took 2 hard shots during the first half, both were saved by the Danes' Goalie.  With 11 minutes left in the first half, Sophomore, Madeline Smith made a well-timed cross to Safiya Said whose shot was denied.  The Lady Bears had a chance to get on the board with 2:00 left in the half, Katelyn Byrne took a beautiful free kick from 25 yards that went just over the net.  The half ended with a score of 0-0.

The second half continued to be a hard-fought defensive battle.  Goal Keeper Olivia Barfield kept the Lady Bears in the game with a total of 5 saves.  Halfway through the second half, Freshman Natalie Leibel made a perfect pass to Ella Ciardullo ending in a shot high over the net. 

Throughout the game, the Lady Bears took a total of 9 shots on net, had 3 corners and took 10 free kicks, but were unable to capitalize on a young Denmark team.  With 2:00 left in the game, the Lady Bears put forth a final aggressive effort with Sophomore, Gaby Sanchez fighting for the ball up the sideline against a Dane's player.  Sanchez won the ball and got it to Ella Ciardullo whose shot was deflected.  The final score ended 0-0.

The Lady Bears go on the road for the next five games playing at Roswell, Milton, South Forsyth and Centennial.  Their next home game is March 2nd vs. Chattahoochee High School.
