Lady Bears Varsity Soccer Defeats Heritage as Ciardullo Scores 3 Goals, Friday, February 5th

Milton, Georgia – In a physical Friday night game, the Cambridge Lady Bears beat the visiting Heritage High School Patriots 5-1 on February 5, 2021.

The action got started quickly when just 4 minutes into the game, a foul resulted in the Lady Bear's first free kick.  Junior starting Forward, Ella Ciardullo, took the shot which sailed high over the goal.  However, just a few minutes later, Ciardullo would make a quick run up the left side of the field and, using her skillful footwork, found her way past the goalie and took her shot on the open net to put the Lady Bears on the board.  Just 3 minutes later, Sophomore Katelyn Hardwick would steal the ball and maneuver her way past the goalie to score another Bears goal.  The Patriots were fighting back to try to lessen the deficit, but excellent hustle on defense by Katelyn Byrne and Madeline Smith stopped their first goal attempt of the night.

Junior, Kate Leibel made terrific choices in the midfield to keep the ball with the Bears.  And just 18 minutes into the first half, Madeline Smith made a pass to Katelyn Hardwick for a shot from the left that sailed high to the top right corner putting the Bears up 3-0.  Seven minutes later, Ella Ciardullo would score on a breakaway run to the goal.  The Heritage Patriots tried to answer with a shot on Goalkeeper Olivia Barfield who made a beautiful initial save, which was followed up with a second attempt but Barfield denied the Patriots their goal.

With just 8:30 minutes left in the first half a foul was called on the Lady Bears.  The Patriots took the free kick which sailed over the fingertips of Olivia Barfield for a Patriots goal.  The score at half-time was Lady Bears 4 – Heritage Patriots 1.

The second half started with Abby Fields taking over in the goal.  The Lady Bears put on a stellar defensive performance throughout the second half.  With 20 minutes left in the second half, Ella Ciardullo was tackled in the box and scored on a strong penalty shot giving her a Hat Trick on the night.  This would be her second Hat Trick this season.  The Bears defeated the Heritage High School Patriots with a final score of 5-1.

The Lady Bears go on the road for the next five games playing at Denmark, Roswell, Milton, South Forsyth and Centennial.  Their next home game is March 2nd vs. Chattahoochee High School.
