Cambridge Wrestling Makes History at GHSA Traditional State Tournament, Feb. 13-15, 2020

Nine Bears left the Macon Centreplex with medals, including a 4X State Champion, after 3-days of wrestling the best of the best in the State of Georgia at the GHSA Traditional Wrestling State Tournament held on February 13-15.

Gavin Kane captured his 4th State title and made Cambridge High School history when he defeated the 2019 State Champion from South Paulding.

On the first day of wrestling Cambridge was in first place in team scores and 10 Bears were still in the competition with 7 Bears moving to semifinals and 3 to consolations.  As expected, the second day of wrestling was considerably more difficult but at the end of the day the Bears still had 9 Bears to compete on the final day, 4 for the championship, 2 competing for 3rd, and 3 competing for 5th place.  The team score slipped by 7 points to Creekview High School by the end of the day.

On the final day of wrestling the Cambridge team scored enough points to earn the 2nd place trophy of 43 participating schools in 6 AAAAAA.  Congratulations to the following Bears who earned State medals:  Gavin Kane (1st @180 lbs); Kyle Romano (2nd @138 lbs); Evan Kurtz (2nd @170 lbs); Connor McHugh (2nd @220 lbs); Brenden Boyd (4th @160 lbs); Mike Hudson (4th @195 lbs); Cullen Kane (5th @106 lbs); Nicholas Barton (5th @145 lbs); Ben Werth (6th @120 lbs).
