Cambridge Bears Wrestling Head to State Championships, Jan. 17-19th

The Cambridge Wrestling Team made history on Saturday, January 12th securing a spot at the GHSA Wrestling State Championships in Macon, Georgia!   

The Cambridge Bears began the day as the No. 2 seed in the Regional Duals hosted by Pope High School.  The Bears were on fire and dominated in their first bout against Dunwoody High School with pins being scored by Jett Johnston, Ben Werth, Kyle Romano, Nicholas Barton, Connor McWilliams, Evan Kurtz, Gavin Kane, and Turner ChambersSean Murray with a 10-0 major decision, Connor McHugh with an 8-2 decision and Mike Hudson with his 6-0 decision sealed the deal on the Bears win.  The 58-15 win over Dunwoody pitted the Bears against the No. 1 seed Pope High School for the top spot. 

The Pope match began with Kyle Romano drawing first blood against Pope with a 15-2 major decision.  That was followed with pins by Nicholas Barton, Evan Kurtz, Gavin Kane, and Julian PettyConnor McHugh moved the needle forward with his 8-3 decision over Pope's 182 pound wrestler.  A forfeit caused the Bears to give up 6 points to Pope and after several heart stopping matches Cambridge came up 5 points short.  The final score was 36-31.  The Cambridge Bears went on to secure their spot at State with a 42-33 win over Chattahoochee High School.
