Cambridge High School Wrestlers Bring Home Medals from GHSA State Tournament

Cambridge High School sent 8 wrestlers to participate in the GHSA State Traditional Wrestling Tournament this past weekend, Feb. 12-14th at the Gwinnett Center Area and 5 wrestlers brought home medals.

Seniors Brandon Filosi (138lbs), Eric Cizek (195lbs) and Trey Wolfe (220lbs) finished their high school careers with Cambridge by finishing 3rd, 5th and 4th respectively.

Coach St James said, "This group of seniors are very special because they are the first to go 4 years in our program. I think they all enjoyed their time as a Bear and I know they all look forward to moving on to their next adventure in life. I hope they can take a few lessons learned as a wrestler and apply it to a successful career in whatever they choose. I hope they learned that things don't always go perfect and when they don't they better have a short term memory and keep moving forward. I am very proud of all those who spent 4 years with us."

Junior Will Britain (152lbs) made it to the championship match, but came up short in the finals, finishing 2nd in a very competitive field. Junior Luke Williams (170lbs) wrestled several close matches and finished 5th on the weekend.

There were 61 teams representing the 5A classification and Cambridge placed 6th in the overall standings.

According to Coach St James, "We will be bringing back a very good core of guys to continue the successful program we are accustomed to seeing here at Cambridge. We have some very solid JV wrestlers ready to get their chance to compete on varsity and we also have a superior crop of incoming freshman next season."
