Another First for the Cambridge History Books

It was was a busy tournament weekend for the Cambridge Lady Bears varsity basketball team as the girls played three consecutive days in Gainesville in the Big Red Shootout.  After falling in the first and second rounds, the team came through with its first win ever.

The Lady Bears defeated the Johnson Knights, 44-40. For Coach Lesley Broadwell and her assistant, Pam Masinko, this was the culmination of hard work and determination along with long hours for the girls and the coaches as they continued to grind it out in practices and games for the last several weeks. Coach Broadwell says she is just happy the team had a positive outcome. "They have been working hard with little to show for it thus far, so Coach Masinko and I just want them to experience some success. As a coach you want your kids to expect to win every time they step on the court, but in order to do that they have to learn what it feels like. Hopefully we can build off this and continue to get better."

It turns out that the next time the varsity team plays, it will be against the same Johnson Knights but at their high school in Gainesville, Friday, January 4th. The Lady Bears will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys varsity team at 7:30 p.m.
