On Saturday, March 25, the Cambridge track & field team went to the Fulton County Championships at Westlake High School. After a series of early morning rain showers after daybreak, the sun came out and the competition was on among the county's various schools.
There are 18 events contested at the state meet (as well as the county).The boys scored in 14 of them and the girls scored in 10 of them. At the end of the day, the girls finished fourth and set two school records and the boys (missing a couple of key team members) finished fifth. In addition, a number of personal records (PR) were established.
The individual scorers for the girls were:
Anna Filipek - third in the 3200 meters
Gabrielle Dandridge - second in the 400 meters
Eleanor Reeves - eighth in the shot put
Amelia Martinez - eighth in the long jump (PR)
Briana Gaetano- eighth in the high jump (PR)
Lilah Versluis - winning the high jump (raising her school record and the current 5A state leading mark); fifth in the long jump (PR); and fifth in the 100 meter hurdles
Julia Versluis - winning the pole vault (PR and tied for the current 5A state leading mark); fifth in high jump; and third in triple jump (setting a school record and just off the 5A state lead).
The girls 4x400 meter relay finished second (region leading time) and the 4x200 meter relay finished fourth.
The individual scorers for the boys were:
Francisco Palacio-Rodriguez - sixth in the 3200 meters
Grayson Peterson - seventh in the 3200 meters and eighth in the pole vault (PR)
Cameron Parodi - fifth in the 200 meters (PR)
Seth Odom - fifth in the 800 meters
Ibrahim Bangura - fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (PR) and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles (PR)
Preston Clemmer - sixth in the 400 meters (PR)
Noah Bollenbacher - third in pole vault (PR) and seventh in the 400 meters (PR)
Dillon Shin - sixth in the 1600 meters and seventh in the 800 meters
Ian Chaffin - eighth in the 100 meters (PR)
Christopher Straw - third in the discus
The boys 4x800 meter relay was second; the 4x400 meter relay was sixth (region leading time); the 4x200 meter relay was fourth (region leading time); and the 4x100 meter relay was eighth.
