Cambridge Boys Win Roswell Relays- Set Three School Records

Cambridge Boys Win Roswell Relays- Set Three School Records

On an very cold and windy Saturday, March 18, the Cambridge track & field team arrived at the Roswell Relays (Roswell High School) to do battle with 25 other teams. With the prom scheduled for that evening and missing others for a variety of reasons, the athletes had to dig deep and focus on the task at hand. In the end, the boys had defeated all challengers and won the meet and the girls valiantly fought to a top ten finish. The boys also managed to set three school records during the meet.

Trailing the points leader by double digits, a breakout performance or two was needed for the boys to make a run for the team title. Then, the weather warmed a little that afternoon and results started to trend in their favor. The boys quickly picked up key victories in the 100 meters and 300 meter hurdles. A key fourth place finish in the 4x200 meter relay moved the title within reach and the title was secured by a solid third place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The team and their parents celebrated the win and look forward with excitement to what the future holds.

The individual scorers for the boys included:

Christopher Straw - 5th place in the discus (extending his school record)

Brandon Moss - winning the 100 meters (setting the school record and becoming the first athlete in school history to run under 11 seconds in the event)

Ibrahim Bangura - 6th in the 110 meter hurdles and 7th in the 300 meter hurdles

Preston Clemmer - 5th in the 100 meters (personal record)

Dominick Lawshea -  winning the 300 meter hurdles

Noah Bollenbacher - 7th in pole vault

Aman Mauze - 8th in high jump

In the relays, the boys finished second in the 4x100 (school record); fourth in the 4x200; third in the 4x400; sixth in the 4x1600 and seventh in the distance medley relay.

The girls were led by Lilah Versluis. She won the high jump and finished third in the long jump. In addition, the 4x1600 meter relay finished a strong second and the 4x200 meter relay raced to a third place finish.
