Lady Bears Track & Field Team Wins Milton Showcase; Boys Set Two School Records
On a beautiful sunny day, the Cambridge track and field team ushered in the month of March by going to the Milton Showcase (Milton High School) on Saturday, March 4, to compete against 19 other teams. When the day ended, the girls took home the coveted trophy as the winning team in their division. However, although the boys finished fourth in their division, they managed to set two meet records during the course of the day.
 
The boys had a number of top eight scorers:
 
Dominick Lawshea won the 400 meter hurdles in a state leading time and lowered his existing school record in the event.
 
Ibrahim Bangura finished third in the 110 meter hurdles. Mason Guerra finished fourth in the event. (Personal records for both).
 
Dillon Shin raced to a second place finish in the 800 meter run. Seth Odom finished fifth in the event. Both ran under two minutes. (Personal records for both).
 
Noah Bollenbacher finished fifth in the 400 meters (personal record) and fourth in the pole vault (tying his personal record).
 
Tyler Blalock sprinted to a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash (personal record).
 
Francisco Palacio-Rodriguez finished fifth in the two mile run (personal record).
 
Charlie Lillystone finished seventh in the triple jump (personal record).
 
Gray Peterson finished sixth in the one mile run.
 
Aman Mauze leaped to a sixth place finish in the high jump (tying a personal record).
 
Christopher Straw tossed the discus to a sixth place finish (personal record). Carter Benson finished eighth in the event.
 
In the relays, the 4x200 meter team finished sixth; the 4x800 meter team finished seventh; and the 4x1600 meter team raced to a third place finish. However, the 1600 meter sprint medley relay was the story. The foursome (Adithya Vangapandu, Dominick Lawshea, Noah Bollenbacher and Dillon Shin) chopped eight seconds off the previous record to set a new school record by finishing second in the event.
 
The girls had a number of top eight scorers:
 
Julia Versluis won the pole vault (personal outdoor record); leaped to a second place finish in the high jump (tying a personal record); and finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles 
 
Gabrielle Dandridge won the 400 meters.
 
Anna Filipek finished third in the two mile run.
 
Logan Huddle raced to a fifth place finish in the 800 meters (personal record).
 
Amelia Martinez finished fifth in the long jump (personal record).
 
Lilah Versluis won the high jump; finished second in the long jump (tying a personal record); and raced to a fifth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.
 
Lauren Tindle finished seventh In the one mile run.
 
Alexandria Hunt finished eighth in the 100 meters (personal record).
 
In the relays, the 4x100 meters finished fifth; the 4x200 meters finished third; the 4x800 meters finished fifth; the 4x1600 meters finished third; and the 1600 meter sprint medley finished fifth.
 
All celebrated as the girls won the team trophy.
 
The team next competes in a small home meet Wednesday (March 8) and then the Roswell Relays on Saturday (March 18).
