Cambridge Track and Field Advances to State; Four School Records Set
On May 7, the Cambridge track and field team individuals and relays that advanced out of region went to River Ridge High School to compete in state sectionals. The top eight individuals and relays in each event earned the right to go on to the state championship meet. This was the goal all year for the Bears' veterans and newcomers..and their coaches.
 
The team rose to the challenge and advanced a number of individuals and relays, along with setting four school records. The individuals advancing to state are the following:
 
Lyle Donovan - 1600 meters and 800 meters
Mattson Peterson - 800 meters
Eric Garguilo - pole vault
Noah Bollenbacher - pole vault
Carson Kent - shot put (school record)
Gabrielle Dandridge - 200 meters and 400 meters
Lilah Versluis - high jump
Jessica Hernandez - 800 meters
Julia Versluis - high jump and pole vault
Olivia Bollenbacher - pole vault and triple jump
 
The relays advancing to state:
 
Boy's 4x200 meter relay 
Girl's 4x400 meter relay
Boy's 4x400 meter relay
Girl's 4x800 meter relay
Boy's 4x800 meter relay team (school record time)
 
Also note that although they did not advance out of sectional, Justice Winfrey (triple jump) and Kendal Quarles (200 meters) set school records that day.
 
Next up is the GHSA State Championship in Carrollton, Georgia begining May 12 (with all field events and the 4x800)  through May 14 (with all the running finals). It should be an exciting three days!!!
