Cambridge Track and Field Scores Early and Often at Fulton County Championships, Saturday, March 26th

The Cambridge track and field team competed in the Fulton County championships on Saturday, March 26. It was sunny and breezy day but in the end it did not matter as the girls finished second in the county, and the boys finished fourth in their respective divisions.

Track and field is a sport that has individual event champions as well as the need to run as a cohesive unit on the various relays. One of the strengths of the Bears team are the relay teams and they did not disappoint on Saturday -- setting two school records in the process. The girls 4x200 meter relay team (#3 ranked in state classification) finished third (school record time); the 4x400 meter relay team (#4 ranked in state classification) finished third; and the 4x800 meter relay team (#1 ranked in state classification) won the event. The boys 4x200 meter relay team finished fifth; the 4x400 meter relay team (#9 ranked in state classification) finished sixth; and the 4x800 meter relay team (#2 ranked in state classification) finished second (school record time).

As for the individual girl performances, Jessica Hernandez (#10 ranked in state classification) had  an outstanding race to finish third in the 1600 meter run (personal record); Gabrielle Dandridge (#3 ranked in state classification) sprinted to a third place finish against a strong field in the 400 meter run; Faith Hirschi ran strong to finish fifth in the 800 meter run;  Logan Huddle finished eighth in the 300 meter hurdles; Anna Filipek (#3 ranked in state classification for 3200 meter run) finished fourth in the 3200 meter run and eighth in the 1600 meter run; Katie Malone finished fifth in the 3200 meter run; Lauren Tindle battled to a sixth place finish in the 3200 meter run; Olivia Bollenbacher (#1 ranked in state classification for pole vault and #8 ranked in state classification for triple jump) won pole vault in a meet record setting height and finished fifth in triple jump; Amelia Martinez leaped to a fifth place finish in the long jump (personal record); Sarah Meredith finished third in the discus and seventh in the shot put;  Sydney Granby finished a strong fourth in the shot put; Lilah Versluis (#8 ranked in state classification) finished fifth in high jump; and Julia Versluis (#3 ranked in state classification for high jump and #4 ranked in state classification for pole vault) finished third in high jump and fourth in pole vault.

As for the individual scorers for the boys, Preston Clemmer raced to a seventh place finish in the 400 meter run; Dominick Lawshea (#4 ranked in state classification for the 300 meter hurdles) ran very strong races to finish second in the 300 meter hurdles and fifth in the 110 meter hurdles;  Eric Garguilo (#4 ranked in state classification for pole vault) finished fourth in pole vault and eighth in 110 meter hurdles; Noah Bollenbacher finished seventh in the pole vault; Will Doty tossed the platter for a seventh place finish in the discus; Grayson Peterson finished eighth in the 3200 meter run; Francisco Palacios-Rodriguez finished seventh in the 3200 meter run; Mattson Peterson ran strong to finish second in the 800 meter run; and Lyle Donovan (#9 ranked in state classification for 1600 meters) produced two very strong performances by winning the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run.
