Cambridge Track and Field Sets Eight School Records in One Weekend at Milton Showcase

Cambridge Track and Field Sets Eight School Records in One Weekend at Milton Showcase
On March 4-5, the Cambridge track & field team was looking to continue a journey that included an unfinished piece of business that began in 2020 - survived a pandemic - and has it's sights set on reaching the state championship weekend in May. To review, in March 2020, the team went to the Milton Showcase and finished 2nd in both girls and boys (as well as combined score). The team looked forward to a great remainder of the season (particularly as the girls had finished in 2nd place in the state in 2019). However, a few days after that day in March 2020, COVID-19 shut down high school sports for the remainder of the school year.

Fast forward to last weekend and the Milton Showcase was again held and wonderfully hosted by Milton High School. This time, the team put together a great amount of effort and determination and ended the meet as the girls champion, boys champion and combined score champion. Along the way, the team also took down and established eight school records and now hold some current state leading marks.

The girls team medalists included:
Gabrielle Dandridge in the 200 meters (2nd) and winning the 400 meters in a school record time and one of the leading times in the state;
Jessica Hernandez winning the 1500 meters in a school record time and also one of the leading times in the state;
Julia Versluis winning the high jump (tying her existing school record);
Olivia Bollenbacher winning the pole vault and triple jump;
Sarah Meredith winning the discus, 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles and 3rd in the shot put;
Logan Huddle winning the 400 meter hurdles and the leading time in the state;
Hana El-Gazairly in the 100 meter hurdles (3rd);
Faith Hirschi in the 800 meters (3rd);
Lilah Versluis in the high jump (3rd);
Amelia Martinez in the long jump (2nd);
Kathryn (Katie) Malone in the 5K (3rd);
Anna Filipek in the 2 mile (2nd) and one of the leading times in the state; and
Lauren Tindle in the 1 mile (3rd).

The girls 4x400 meter relay team (1st); the 4x200 meter relay team (3rd - and a school record time); and the 4x800 meter relay team (1st - and one of the leading times in the state) were medalists. Also of note, the 800 meter sprint medley relay team set a school record time.

The boys team medalists included:
Eric Garguilo winning the 110 meter hurdles and taking 3rd in the pole vault;
Dominick Lawshea winning the 400 meter hurdles in a school record time and Milton Showcase meet record time, winning the 300 meter hurdles and taking 2nd in the triple jump;
Lyle Donovan winning the mile in a school record time and current state leading time; and
Kendal Quarles in the high jump (2nd), 100 meters (3rd) and 200 meters (3rd).

The 4x800 meter relay team took 1st place - just missing a school record time, and the four thousand meter distance medley relay team took 2nd place in a school record time.

Next, the team hosts the JV invitational on Wednesday (March 9) and then travel to the Roswell Rotary Relays (March 19).
