Cambridge Track and Field Sets Six School Records in Centennial and "Wake the Bear" Meets
The last full week of February 2022 was truly a noteworthy one for the Cambridge track and field team as they attended a three way (tri) mid week meet at Centennial High School, Wednesday, February 23rd and finished the week by hosting the first ever "Wake The Bear" meet against five other teams - including two region opponents on Saturday, February 26th. 
 
The team did not disappoint and rose to the challenge by setting six school records and inching closer in a number of others. This is shaping up to be an outstanding team and we hope you join in on the excitement around the track and thank our wonderful volunteers that are always there to assist whenever and wherever they are needed. So, how did the week go?
 
At the "Wake The Bear" meet, the Girls Team individual medalists were:
Gabrielle Dandridge winning the 400 meters;
Faith Hirschi in the 800 (2nd);
Anna Filipek winning the 3200 meters;
Lilah Versluis (personal record) and Julia Versluis going 1st and 2nd in the high jump;
Sarah Meredith winning the shot put (and setting a new school record) and placing 3rd in the discus; and
Olivia Bollenbacher winning the triple jump (personal record) and the pole vault (raising her existing school record and taking over as the current state leader in the event).
 
Of special note are the 4x400 meter relay team (2nd), the 4x800 meter relay team (3rd), and the 4x200 meter relay team finishing 2nd in a school work record-setting time.
 
The Boys Team started the week off at the Centennial meet with Kendal Quarles leaping to a winning performance in the high jump and also winning the 200 meters in a school record-setting time. Preston Clemmer also had a winning night as he won the 400 meters and anchored the 4x100 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay to victory.
 
At the "Wake The Bear" meet, the Boys Team individual medalists were:
Kendal Quarles winning the 100 meters;
Ben Ridenour in the 200 meters (3rd);
Mattson Peterson winning the 800 meters (personal record);
Lyle Donovan winning the 1600 meters;
Eric Garguilo winning the 110 meter hurdles (in a school record-setting time) and finishing 2nd in the pole vault;
Will Taylor (personal record) in the long jump (3rd);
Ethan Krueck (personal record) in the shot put (2nd);
Carter Benson in the discus (3rd); and
Dominick Lawshea winning the triple jump and finishing 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles (personal record).
 
Also noteworthy were the winning performances of the 4x400 meter relay, the 4x800 meter relay and the 4x200 meter relay teams - with the 4x200 meter relay team setting a school record.
 
Next, the team hosts a tri meet on Wednesday, March 2nd and travels to Milton High School for the Milton Showcase on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5th.
