Cambridge Track & Field Team Begins 2020 Season Setting School Records

Cambridge Track & Field Team Begins 2020 Season Setting School Records

The Cambridge track & field team began their season Wednesday, February 19th with a home intrasquad meet.  Following the traditional format of a normal track meet, the team competed in a condensed schedule in a shortened time frame that allowed them to get comfortable with the order of events and to gauge their early season fitness in front of family and friends.  The athletes did not disappoint as a number of noteworthy performances were accomplished including a school record performance in the girls pole vault by Michaela Prevallet; a personal record by Olivia Bollenbacher in the girls high jump; a personal record by Faith Hirschi in the 800 meters; and two personal records in the 100 meters and 200 meters by Natalie Bell.

Next, the team competed on Friday-Saturday, February 21 and 22nd in Lawrenceville, Georgia at the highly-regarded Archer Invitational.

The first day was reserved for some of the developing athletes in four individual events and a relay.  The Bears earned a number of medals for their performances including:  Julia Versluis winning the girls pole vault; Noah Prevallet taking 3rd in the boys pole vault; and eight girls taking home a medal by virtue of the girls 4x400 meter relay teams placing 1st and 3rd.

The following day (February 22) the full meet was held and the team did not disappoint.  The boys team was led by a school record performance (8th place overall) in the shot put by Charlie Goodell; a 7th place finish in the 400 meters by Jack McHale; a 7th and 8th place finish in the 1600 meters by Lyle Donovan and Yahya Merchant respectively; a 7th place finish in the 300 hurdles by Caelan Jones; and an 8th place finish in the 4x800 meter relay.

The girls team was led by a strong performance (1st place) in the 1600 meters by Ashley Sechrest; a 1st and 2nd place performance by Michaela Prevallet and Olivia Bollenbacher in the pole vault; a 3rd place finish in the 800 meters by Kathryn Suplee; a 2nd place performance in the 100 meter hurdles by Michaela Prevallet; a 2nd place performance and USA silver elite time in the 300 meter hurdles by Grace Wolf; a 6th place finish in the 3200 meters by Camila Montes; a 6th place finish in the 800 meters by Emily Meeker; a 3rd place finish in the 4x100 meter relay; a 4th place finish in the 4x400 meter relay; and a 5th and 8th place finish in the 4x800 meter relay.

Overall, the girls team finished in 3rd place among the 25 teams in attendance - trailing only Marietta High School and host school Archer High School.
