Cambridge Falls to North Gwinnett; Secures 18 New State Cuts and 23 Best Times

Cambridge faced off against 7A powerhouse North Gwinnett on Saturday evening at West Gwinnett Aquatic Center. Competing with a short roster, Cambridge brought 28 athletes to face off against their 90+ athlete squad. The Bears won multiple events, but it wasn't enough to take down their numbers.

In the first event of the night, the boys A-Medley Relay (John Murphy, Thomas Lenston, Oscar Ryhzkov, Gavin Schoeling) took third overall with a time of 1:51.88. The B-relay (Ryan Robertson, Elijah Ediso, Maor Bigio, Yan Berezitsky) took sixth. 

In the girls event, the A-relay (Kate Kerber, Caroline Gaines, Jamie Walsh, Abby Harber) took first by out-touching the North Gwinnett A-relay with a time of 1:55.00, which was a state qualifying time. 

In the boys 200-freestyle, the Bears stacked up some huge points. Jax Jackson took first in the event with a state qualifying time of 1:54.15, which was also a new personal best. Gavin Schoeling touched immediately after for second place with a time of 1:54.83, which was also state-qualifying and a new personal best. John Murphy took sixth with a new personal best time, and Maor Bigio took seventh. 

The girls continued the momentum with Caroline Gaines being the first Bear to touch the wall in second place with a new personal best and state qualifying time of 2:04.33. Alexis Walkenhorst took 11th with her first time in the event. 

In the 200-individual medley, Thomas Lenston took third place with a state qualifying time of 2:06.50. Oscar Ryzhkov took seventh, Zach Andersen took eighth, and Yan Berezitsky took 10th with a new personal best time. 

In the girls event, Kate Kerber won the event with a state qualifying time of 2:13.01, followed in third place by Alana Drevet and fifth place by Abby Harber

In the 50-freestyle event for the boys, Tate Robertson took 13th place with a new personal best time, followed by Aneesh Ayyagari in 14th place with a new personal best time, and Shane Merrill in 18th place. 

For the girls, Ana-Clare Grann took seventh place, Mihika Ayyagari took 10th with a new personal best time, and Gabby Edwards took 18th with a new personal best time. 

In the diving event, Brandon Norfleet scored 128.00 and took fourth place overall. Norfleet is showing a lot of improvement and that he is willing to take risks and try new things each time he competes. We look forward to seeing him develop this season!

For the girls, Brooklyn Petit took first with a score of 297.05 and Lilah Versluis took second with a score of 203.70. Both had standout performances and Petit was able to qualify for state with her degree of difficulty and overall score. Petit will be the diver to beat for any school the Bears face this season!

In the boys 100-butterfly, Gavin Schoeling swam a new best time (56.91) and state cut to take second place overall. Oscar Ryzhkov took fourth, Maor Bigio took sixth, and Elijah Edison took 10th with a new personal best time. 

In the girls event, Jamie Walsh took third place with a state cut of 1:03.68, which was also a new personal best time. 

In the boys 100-freestyle, Yan Berezitsky dropped a tremendous amount of time to finish in second place with a time of 52.82, less than a second off the state cut. John Murphy took fifth, Tate Robertson took eighth with a new best time, Pranav Kolathaya took 11th with a new best time, Aneesh Ayyagari took 12th with a new best time and Raj Malik took 13th. 

For the girls, Alana Drevet competed in exhibition and finished in 1:01.43. Hayden Whalen swam a new best time and took seventh place, Mihika Ayyagari took 14th with a new best time, and Gabby Edwards took 17th with a new best time. 

In the 500-freestyle, Elijah Edison took third and Ryan Robertson took fourth. 

In the girls event, Caroline Gaines set a new best time of 5:26.45 which qualified her for state. Abby Harber took third and Alexis Walkenhorst took fourth. 

In the 200-freestyle relay, the boys A-relay (Gavin Schoeling, Jax Jackson, John Murphy, Zach Andersen) took second place. The B-relay was unfortunately disqualified for an early take-off. 

In the girls event, the A-relay (Kate Kerber, Jamie Walsh, Caroline Gaines, Abby Harber) took second with a state qualifying time of 1:47.54. Kate Kerber also earned a state cut in the 50-free for the leadoff leg. The B-relay (Ana-Clare Grann, Hayden Whalen, Mihika Ayyagari, Alexis Walkenhorst) took fifth. 

In the boys 100-backstroke, Jax Jackson took third with a new best time of 1:02.62. Zach Andersen took sixth, Raj Malik took 11th with a new best time, and Shane Merrill took 12th. 

For the girls, Kate Kerber took third place with a state qualifying time of 1:03.15. Ana-Clare Grann took eighth place and Hayden Whalen took 10th. 

In the last individual of the evening, Thomas Lenston earned his third state qualifying time of the day with a second place finish and a time of 1:02.93. Ryan Robertson took ninth with a new best time and Pranav Kolathaya took 11th with a new best time. 

The girls had a big showing for the breaststroke event with Alana Drevet taking second with a state qualifying time of 1:13.88 and Jamie Walsh finished right behind her with a third place finish and a state qualifying time of 1:14.62. 

In the final event of the night, the boys 400-freestyle A-relay (Thomas Lenston, Oscar Ryzhkov, Jax Jackson, Zach Andersen) took second with a state qualifying time of 3:38.00. The B-relay (Yan Berezitsky, Elijah Edison, Ryan Robertson, Maor Bigio) tool fourth. 

The girls 400-freestyle relay (Alexis Walkenhorst, Ana-Clare Grann, Hayden Whalen, Mihika Ayyagari) took fourth. 

The Bears now have all six relays qualified for the state meet. The team also has one diver, eighth swimmers, and 22 individual events qualified for the state meet! The team will face off against Riverwood and Wesleyan on Thursday at 5:00 PM at Wesleyan and will host Riverwood, Rivers, and Milton on November 20th (Monday) at Cumming Aquatic Center at 11:30 AM.
