Girls Claim Region Runner-Up Title; Team Takes 2nd Combined

The Cambridge swimming and diving team traveled to Greater Atlanta Christian last week to participate in the first ever region championship meet. Due to weather, prelims were condensed to Friday, with boys and girls competing in prelims together. Top 16 continued to finals on Saturday along with diving championships.

Cambridge had four divers compete in the region championships: Hana El-Gazairly, Karsyn Warden, Brooklyn Petit and Lilah Versluis. Brooklyn Petit blew away the competition with an outstanding performance and a score of 274.70. Petit took home the gold for the diving championships. Senior Captain Hana El-Gazairly also had a solid performance and took home silver with a score of 220.85. Lilah Versluis had a great performance and took home bronze with a score of 219.00. Karsyn Warden took 5th overall. The Cambridge girls swept the competition on the podium!

For the medley relay, the boys A-relay (John Murphy, Elijah Edison, Matthew Harper, Gavin Schoeling) took seventh in prelims with a time of 1:58.22. The boys came back at finals and dropped time to finish in 1:55.19 and take fifth overall. The B-relay (Ryan Robertson, Ian Grann, Tate Robertson, Bryson Mynatt) took eighth in prelims. Only one relay could return per team to finals.

For the girls, the A-relay (Olivia Skinner, Alana Drevet, Jamie Walsh, Audrey Lampa) took third in prelims with a time of 2:03.20. They came back at finals to drop substantial time and finish in 1:57.84 and take the bronze medal. The B-relay (Liel Bigio, Hayden Warden, Mihika Ayyagari, Sela Guy) took tenth in prelims.

In the 200-freestyle, Gavin Schoeling took third in prelims with a time of 2:00.00, but came back to take second in finals AND earn his state cut in the event with a time of 1:54.92. Matthew Harper took sixth in prelims, but also dropped significant time at finals to take fifth overall. Aneesh Ayyagari also went a new best time to take 11th at prelims, but 10th at finals.

In the girls event, Abby Harber took fifth at prelims, but dropped time in finals with a time of 2:12.52 and took sixth overall. Audrey Lampa took eighth in prelims and maintained in finals, but managed to drop some time. Hayden Whalen took ninth in prelims with a new best time but was unable to compete in finals.

In the 200-individual medley for the boys, Gavin Grann took fourth in prelims, but came back and took the bronze in finals with a new best time of 2:12.37. Elijah Edison took eighth in prelims, but shaved time in finals for a new best time and took eighth. Pranav Kolathaya took 15th at prelims and swam a new best time in finals to finish in 11th.

For the girls event, Jamie Walsh took second in prelims, but shaved over two-seconds at finals to finish in 2:15.07 (a new personal best) and take the silver medal. Mihika Ayyagari took 10th in prelims and maintained in finals, but shaved off about six-seconds to swim a new best time.

In the 50-freestyle for the boys, Aaron Grann took fifth in prelims to clock his state cut with a time of 23.46. Grann took sixth in finals. Yan Berezitsky took 11th in prelims and 13th in finals with a new best time. Bryson Mynatt took 24th in prelims, Ryan Robertson took 28th, Raj Malik took 30th, Tate Robertson took 31st, and Grey Donner took 35th.

For the girls, Ana-Clare Grann took eighth in prelims and maintained in finals but finished with a new best time. Molly Thompson swam a new best time in prelims and finished in 12th, but dropped time again in finals and took 13th. Sela Guy took 29th in prelims.

In the 100-butterfly for the boys, Maor Bigio took eighth in prelims, fifth in finals, and finished with a new best time of 1:00.45. John Murphy took fifth in prelims and seventh in finals. He swam a new best time in prelims. Matthew Harper took ninth in prelims with a new best time.

For the girls event, Samantha Hamilton took fifth in prelims and took the bronze in finals with a new state cut time of 1:04.81. Olivia Skinner took sixth in prelims, but fourth in finals with a new best time. Mihika Ayyagari took tenth in prelims and eighth in finals, also with a new best time.

In the boys 100-freestyle, Gavin Grann swam a new best time of 50.39 at prelims and was seeded first going into finals. Grann took the silver in finals. Aaron Grann took sixth in prelims, and fifth in finals with a new best time. Zach Andersen took seventh in prelims and sixth in finals with a new best time. Tate Robertson took 25th in prelims with a new best time, Raj Malik took 28th, Aneesh Ayyagari 33rd, Pranav Kolathaya took 24th, and Grey Donner took 35th.

For the girls, Alana Drevet took 10th in prelims, and came back in finals with a huge time drop and a ninth place finish. Molly Thompson took 13th in prelims and maintained in finals with a new best time. Sela Guy took 32nd.

In the 500-freestyle, Yan Berezitsky went a new best time in prelims of 5:21.97 to take third. He maintained and took bronze in finals. Gavin Schoeling took fourth in prelims and maintained in finals. Bryson Mynatt took seventh in prelims and then jumped to sixth in finals with a substantially cut time.

In the girls event, Jamie Walsh took fourth in prelims and cut time to swim a new best time in finals of 5:23.57. Audrey Lampa took sixth in prelims and maintained in finals, but managed to cut time.

In the boys 200-freestyle relay, the A-relay (Gavin Grann, Zach Andersen, Yan Berezitsky, Aaron Grann) took second in prelims and maintained to take silver in finals with a time drop. The B-relay (Elijah Edison, Ryan Robertson, Tate Robertson, Ian Grann) took seventh in prelims.

For the girls, the A-relay (Ana-Clare Grann, Abby Harber, Olivia Skinner, Samantha Hamilton) took third in prelims and maintained to take the bronze in finals with a four-second time drop. The B-relay (Mihika Ayyagari, Sela Guy, Hayden Whalen, Molly Thompson) took seventh in prelims.

In the boys 100-backstroke, John Murphy took 10th in prelims and maintained in finals, but had a nice time drop for a new best time of 1:01.16. Ryan Robertson took 10th in prelims and 11th in finals, but had an almost three-second time drop in finals! Ian Grann took 14th in prelims and maintained in finals.

For the girls, Smanatha Hamilton took sixth in prelims and fourth in finals with a new best time and a new state cut of 1:04.87! Ana-Clare Grann took 12th in prelims but jumped all the way to ninth for finals with a new best time by four-seconds! Hayden Whalen took eighth in prelims but couldn't return to finals. Liel Bigio took 10th in prelims and jumped to eighth in finals.

In the 100-breaststroke for the boys, Zach Andersen took sixth in prelims and jumped to fifth in finals with a new best time. Elijah Edison took 12th in prelims and jumped to 10th in finals with a new best time. Ian Grann took 11th in prelims with a new best time and 13th in finals.

For the girls, Alana Drevet took fourth in prelims and had a huge three-second time drop in finals to take bronze in the event! Olivia Skinner took eighth in prelims and then seventh in finals with a new best time, just off the state cut. Abby Harber took 11th in prelims and maintained in finals, but had a three-second time drop.

In the final event of the day, the boys A-relay for the 400-free relay (Gavin Grann, Aaron Grann, Zach Andersen, Gavin Schoeling) took second in prelims and maintained in finals to take silver, but had a nice six-second time drop in finals. The B-relay (John Murphy, Yan Berezitsky, Matthew Harper, Bryson Mynatt) took sixth in prelims.

For the girls, the A-relay (Samantha Hamilton, Alana Drevet, Jamie Walsh, Abby Harber) took third in prelims and maintained in finals to take the bronze with a six-second time drop. The B-relay (Liel Bigio, Audrey Lampa, Ana-Clare Grann, Molly Thompson) took seventh in prelims.

The Bears have one more meet before the state championship. Divers will travel to Westminster for Metro Championships on Friday, January 20th and the swimmers will go on Saturday, January 21st. Diving state championships are on Tuesday, January 31st at Westminster and swimming state championships will be on Saturday, February 4th at Georgia Tech.
