Cambridge Swim & Dive Team Girls Finish 3rd at 16th Annual Madeleine Jude Brown Meet of Champions

On Friday and Saturday, December 16 & 17, the Bears traveled to Marist to participate in the Meet of Champions, in memory of Madeleine Jude Brown, who was a student at Marist and then passed away while a student at Emory University. She was a member of the Marist swim program and so the family sponsors the meet every year in her honor.

On Friday, the four Cambridge divers took to the boards. At the end of the competition, Brooklyn Petit took third overall with a score of 265.05. Lilah Versluis also had a great meet and took ninth place with a score of 236.55. Hana El-Gazairly took 24th and Karsyn Warden took 25th. In total, there were 54 female divers.

On Saturday, the swimmers had their competition. The meet was kicked off with the boys 200-medley relay. The A-relay (Cale Coleman, Aaron Grann, Gavin Schoeling, Gavin Grann) took eighth place with a time of 1:46.88 (state qualifying). The B-relay (Jax Jackson, Elijah Edison, Matthew Harper, Bryson Mynatt) took 15th place and the C-relay (Aneesh Ayyagari, Ian Grann, Pranav Kolathaya, Tate Robertson) took 21st. In the girls event, the A-relay (Sophie Brison, Jamie Walsh, Kate Kerber, Samantha Hamilton) took 3rd overall with a time of 1:54.91 (state qualifying). The B-relay (Molly Thompson, Abigail Marzullo, Sela Guy, Audrey Lampa) took 21st.

In the boys 200-freestyle, Gavin Grann took 11th with a time of 1:56.81, Gavin Schoeling took 14th, Yan Berezitsky took 15th and Matthew Harper took 19th. For the girls, Jamie Walsh took 16th, Samantha Hamitlon took 17th and Olivia Skinner took 19th.

In the 200-individual medley, Cale Coleman took eighth with a state qualifying time of 2:11.72, Zach Andersen took 13th, and Jax Jackson took 15th. For the girls, Kate Kerber took 2nd with an improved state qualifying time of 2:11.68. Caroline Gaines took 3rd also with an improved state qualifying time of 2:15.44, and Abby Harber took 18th.

In the boys 50-freestyle, Aaron Grann just missed the state cut and took 17th, Bryson Mynatt took 55th, Ryan Robertson took 62nd, Ian Grann took 71st, Tate Robertson took 72nd, Pranav Kolathaya took 76th, and Aneesh Ayyagari took 82nd. For the girls, Ana-Clare Grann took 35th, Molly Thompson took 45th, Abigail Marzullo took 68th, and Sela Guy took 81st.

In the boys 100-butterfly, Cale Coleman took 13th with a time of 59.30, John Murphy took 18th, Matthew Harper took 21st and Elijah Edison took 23rd. For the girls, Kate Kerber took third with a time of 1:00.68, Jennifer Griner clocked her state qualifying time by taking eighth place with a time of 1:04.08, Audrey Lampa took 19th and Olivia Skinner took 20th.

In the boys 100-freestyle, Bryson Mynatt took 37th, Ryan Robertson took 44th, Tate Robertson took 50th, Ian Grann took 60th, Aneesh Ayyagari took 66th, and Pranav Kolathaya took 69th. For the girls, Molly Thompson took 41st, Sela Guy took 66th, and Abigail Marzullo took 67th.

In the boys 500-freestyle, Jax Jackson took fifth with a new best time and Gavin Schoeling took sixth, also with a new best time. For the girls, Sophie Brison took the gold in the event with a state qualifying time of 5:07.13. Abby Harber took 10th, and Audrey Lampa took 15th.

In the boys 200-freestyle relay, the A-relay (Aaron Grann, Yan Berezitsky, Zach Andersen, John Murphy) took ninth with a state qualifying time of 1:37.99. The B-relay (Ryan Robertson, Pranav Kolathaya, Ian Grann, Aneesh Ayyagari) took 21st. The girls A-relay (Jennifer Griner, Abby Harber, Samantha Hamilton, Caroline Gaines) took third with a state qualifying time of 1:45.89. Griner clocked a state qualifying time with her lead-off leg to the relay with a time of 25.79. The B-relay (Olivia Skinner, Ana-Clare Grann, Audrey Lampa, Molly Thompson) took 19th.

The boys 100-backstroke had Gavin Grann come within a touch of the state qualifying time with his 10th place finish in 1:00.58. John Murphy took 12th. For the girls, Caroline Gaines took third with a state qualifying time of 1:02.74. Samantha Hamilton took 13th and Ana-Clare Grann took 23rd.

In the boys 100-breaststroke, Aaron Grann pulled out a great performance to shatter his best time and clock his first individual state qualifying time of 1:05.98, earning him sixth place. Yan Berezitsky took 13th, Zach Andersen swam a new best time and took 18th, and Elijah Edison took 24th. For the girls, Sophie Brison took fifth with a state qualifying time of 1:11.34. Jamie Walsh took 11th and Jennifer Griner took 13th with a time just off the state cut.

In the last event of the day, the boys 400-freestyle A-relay (Zach Andersen, Gavin Grann, Gavin Schoeling, Cale Coleman) unfortunately disqualified for an early take-off. The B-relay (Jax Jackson, John Murphy, Elijah Edison, Yan Berezitsky) took 10th and the C-relay (Tate Robertson, Bryan Mynatt, Ryan Robertson, Matthew Harper) took 16th. For the girls, the A-relay (Caroline Gaines, Kate Kerber, Jennifer Griner, Sophie Brison) took the gold with a state time of 3:40.76. The B-relay (Olivia Skinner, Ana-Clare Grann, Abby Harber, Jamie Walsh) took 13th, and the C-relay (Audrey Lampa, Abigail Marzullo, Sela Guy, Molly Thompson) were disqualified for an early take-off.

At the end of the meet, the results were as follows:

Girls Team Score Finish - 3rd place
Boys Team Score Finish - 7th place

The last meet of the year will be a dive meet on December 28th at Cumming Aquatic Center. The Bears will host a dive invite at 1:00 PM.

January will have the last three meets of the season! On January 5th, Fulton County Championships will take place at West Gwinnett Aquatic Center. Diving will be at 2:00 PM and swimming will begin around 4:00 PM.

January 12th through 14th will be Region Championships at Greater Atlanta Christian. Girls prelims will be on the 12th, boys prelims will be on the 13th, and then diving and finals swimming will be on the 14th.

The last meet of the regular season will be Metro Championships at Westminster. Diving will be on the 20th and swimming will be on the 21st.

The state championship meet will take place on Wednesday, February 1st for diving. They will host that meet at Westminster. Swimming prelims and finals will be on Saturday, February 4th at Georgia Tech. Prelims will be at 9 AM and finals will be at 6 PM.
