Cambridge Swim and Dive Sweeps Riverwood and Rivers Academy, Monday, Nov. 22nd

Cambridge hosted Riverwood and Rivers Academy at Cumming Aquatic Center on Monday, November 22nd. At the end of the meet, Cambridge took the win for combined team score, girls team score and boys team score.

Diving

The meet started out with the dive competition where four divers represented Cambridge. Emilija Ragaine took the first place position with a personal best score of 268.40. In second place was Julia Versluis. Both Ragaine and Versluis have already qualified for state, but their scores today were also state-qualifying scores. Lilah Versluis had her best performance of the season and scored 207.60 which qualified her for the state meet. She is the fifth Cambridge diver to qualify for state thus far this season. Karsyn Warden had her best performance of the season and she took fourth with a score of 176.10.

Swimming

The Bears started off strong with Cambridge boys A-relay (Ben Grottle, Oleg Kolesnikov, Jack O'Connor, Michael O'Connor) taking first with a time of 1:45.57. Right after Grottle finished his backstroke leg in first place, the Bears steadily held on to their lead for the remainder of the race. The B-relay (Alex O'Connor, Ryan Robertson, Dylan Brousseau, Aaron Grann) took third with a time of 1:58.81.

In the girls event, as usual the Cambridge A-relay (Sophie Brison, Caroline Gaines, Claire Kerber, Kate Kerber) held their undefeated status and finished in a time of 1:55.97 with a healthy lead over the second place finish. The second place happened to be their teammates! The B-relay (Jennifer Griner, Jamie Walsh, Camille Brown, Samantha Hamilton) took second with a time of 2:01.85. The C-relay followed suit and touched in third (Paige Jaeger, Sydney Forbes, Ana-Clare Grann, Jessica Hernandez).

In the boys 200-freestyle event, Zach Andersen swam a personal best and took third with a time of 2:00.69, followed by Matthew Harper in fourth.

For the girls, Jennifer Griner touched in second in the 200-freestyle with a state qualifying time of 2:01.19. Claire Kerber touched right after Griner to take third, already with a state qualifying time. Jessica Hernandez took fifth, and Paige Jaeger took seventh.

In the boys 200-individual medley, Ben Grottle swam a great race and shaved off some time to finish in third with a time of 2:00.12. Alex O'Connor finished in fourth and Dylan Brousseau took seventh.

In the girls 200-individual medley, Sophie Brison easily sailed into first with a state qualifying time of 2:12.13, followed by teammate Jamie Walsh in second.

In the boys 50-freestyle, Jack O'Connor took eighth with a time of 25.01, followed by Yan Berezitsky in ninth, Ryan Robertson in 13th, and Raj Malik in 15th.

For the girls, Abby Harber took second, Samantha Hamilton took third, Sydney Forbes took fourth, Ana-Clare Grann took ninth, Taylor Minnich-Trapino took 12th, Amelia Duffner took 13th, and Sela Guy took 16th.

In the boys 100-butterfly, Jack O'Connor took second with a time of 59.94. Michael O'Connor took fourth, and Elijah Edison took seventh.

In the girls event, Kate Kerber took first with a state time of 1:02.17, Claire Kerber took third, and Camille Brown took fourth, all with state qualifying times. Emma Solomon took fifth.

In the boys 100-freestyle event, Oleg Kolesnikov swam a new best time of 53.47 and took fourth place. Zach Andersen took sixth, and Aaron Grann took seventh.

For the girls, Paige Jaeger took second, Sydney Forbes took third, Abby Harber took fifth, Molly Thompson took 10th, and Sela Guy took 13th.

In the boys 500-freestyle, Dylan Brousseau took second place.

For the girls, Jennifer Griner took second with a state qualifying time of 5:24.67. Caroline Gaines took third also with a state time. Jessica Hernandez took fourth, Samantha Hamilton took fifth, and Olivia Skinner took sixth.

In the boys 200-yard freestyle relay, the B-relay took fourth with Yan Berezitsky, Elijah Edison, Raj Malik and Ryan Robertson. The A-relay disqualified for an early take-off.

For the girls team, the A-relay (Abby Harber, Samantha Hamilton, Sydney Forbes, Caroline Gaines) took first with a state time of 1:51.25. The B-relay (Paige Jaeger, Molly Thompson, Olivia Skinner, Amelia Duffner) took fourth, and the C-relay (Abigail Marzullo, Taylor Minnich-Trapino, Emma Solomon, Sela Guy) took fifth.

In the boys 100-backstroke, Ben Grottle took second with a state time of 53.36, followed by teammate Michael O'Connor in third, Alex O'Connor in fourth and Ryan Robertson in sixth.

In the girls event, Sophie Brison easily sailed into first with a state time of 1:00.08, followed by Olivia Skinner in third, Amelia Duffner in fourth, Ana-Clare Grann in fifth, and Molly Thompson in sixth.

In the last individual event of the day, the boy 100-breaststroke had Oleg Kolesnikov taking first with a time of 1:05.95, followed by Yan Berezitsky in fourth with a new best time and Raj Malik in fifth.

The girls dominated the event with Kate Kerber taking first with a time of 1:12.37 and Caroline Gaines taking second, both with state times. Jamie Walsh took third and Camille Brown took fourth. Taylor Minnich-Trapino took sixth and Abigail Marzullo took ninth.

In the final relay of the day, the boys 400-freestyle A-relay (Ben Grottle, Jack O'Connor, Michael O'Connor, Oleg Kolesnikov) took third, the B-relay (Alex O'Connor, Aaron Grann, Dylan Brousseau, Zach Andersen) took fourth, and the C-relay (Yan Berezitsky, Matthew Harper, Elijah Edison, Raj Malik) took sixth.

To finish up, the girls dominated the last event. The A-relay (Jennifer Griner, Claire Kerber, Kate Kerber, Sophie Brison) easily sailed into first with a state time of 3:49.94. The B-relay finished next (Abby Harber, Camille Brown, Jamie Walsh, Jessica Hernandez) in second, and the D-relay (Sela Guy, Abigail Marzullo, Emma Solomon, Molly Thompson) took sixth. The C-relay disqualified for an early take-off.

The Bears had a great extended weekend of competition and they look forward to a week of rest! The Bears will be back at it on December 3rd and 4th for the Central Forsyth Holiday Classic at the Cumming Aquatic Center.
