At Saturday's (Nov. 13th) Lassiter Invitational, Cambridge was able to pull out the win with the women pulling in a solid win and the boys putting up some great performances. The meet provided a great opportunity for the teams to size up the strengths of the other programs early in the season and plan for the meets ahead.
In the boys 200-medley relay, Cambridge's A-relay (Alex O'Connor, Oleg Kolesnikov, Jack O'Connor, Michael O'Connor) took second to Centennial with a state qualifying time of 1:48.97. The B-relay (Aaron Grann, Yan Berezitsky, Gavin Schoeling, Matthew Harper) took fifth.
The girls medley relay continues to be the program's pride and joy with an undefeated title. The A-relay (Sophie Brison, Caroline Gaines, Kate Kerber, Jennifer Griner) took first with a state qualifying time of 1:54.33. The B-relay (Olivia Skinner, Jamie Walsh, Camille Brown, Sydney Forbes) took fifth and the C-relay (Molly Thompson, Taylor Minnich-Trapino, Ana-Clare Grann, Phoenix Koontz) took eighth.
In the boys 200-yard freestyle, Michael O'Connor took second place, Dylan Brousseau took fourth place, and Aaron Grann took seventh place.
In the girls 200-yard freestyle, Paige Jaeger took fifth, Olivia Skinner took eighth, and Phoenix Koontz took tenth.
In the boys 200-yard individual medley, Jack O'Connor took fourth, Oleg Kolesnikov took sixth, Gavin Grann took tenth and Yan Berezitsky took 11th.
In the girls 200-yard individual medley, Kate Kerber took second with a state qualifying time of 2:14.60, and Jennifer Griner took fourth with a state qualifying time.
In the boys 50-yard freestyle, Matthew Harper took tenth, Elijah Edison took 17th, and Raj Malik took 22nd.
In the girls 50-yard freestyle, Abby Harber took fifth, Sydney Forbes took sixth, Ana-Clare Grann took 16th, Abigail Marzullo took 28th, and Sela Guy took 33rd.
In the diving competition, Brooklyn Petit took the win with a score of 224.40, following by Emilija Ragaine in third, Julia Versluis in fourth, Hana El-Gazairly in fifth, Lilah Versluis in sixth, Malaika Murlidhar in eighth, Addy Woods in ninth, and Karsyn Warden in 11th.
In the boys 100-yard butterfly, Ben Grottle took fourth with a state qualifying time of 56.62. Jack O'Connor took seventh, and Gavin Schoeling took ninth.
In the girls 100-yard butterfly, Sophie Brison took first with a state qualifying time of 59.69, followed by Kate Kerber in second with a state qualifying time of 1:03.69.
In the boys 100-yard freestyle, Gavin Grann took ninth, Zach Andersen took 14th, Matthew Harper took 15th, Elijah Edison took 19th, and Raj Malik took 20th.
In the girls 100-yard freestyle, Sydney Forbes took second, Abby Harber took third, Phoenix Koontz took seventh, Molly Thompson took 16th, Taylor Minnich-Trapino took 18th, Sela Guy took 23rd and Abigail Marzullo took 24th.
In the boys 500-yard freestyle, Michael O'Connor took third, Alex O'Connor took fourth, and Yan Berezitsky took sixth.
In the girls 500-yard freestyle, Caroline Gaines took the win with a state qualifying time of 5:30.70, followed by Camille Brown in second also with a state qualifying time. Jamie Walsh took fourth.
In the boys 200-yard freestyle relay, the A-relay (Ben Grottle, Zach Andersen, Gavin Grann, Oleg Kolesnikov) took second with a state qualifying time of 1:37.55. The B-relay (Yan Berezitsky, Matthew Harper, Dylan Brousseau, Elijah Edison) took eighth.
In the girls 200-freestyle relay, the A-relay (Ana-Clare Grann, Phoenix Koontz, Abby Harber, Paige Jaeger) took fourth with a state qualifying time of 1:54.23. The B-relay (Sela Guy, Abigail Marzullo, Taylor Minnich-Trapino, Molly Thompson) took ninth.
In the boys 100-yard backstroke event, Alex O'Connor took fourth, Zach Andersen took eighth, and Gavin Schoeling took 11th.
In the girls 100-yard backstroke, Sophie Brison took the win with a state qualifying time of 57.36, followed by Jennifer Griner with a state qualifying time in third and Jamie Walsh in fourth also with a state qualifying time. Olivia Skinner took seventh, Paige Jaeger took 12th, Ana-Clare Grann took 14th, Molly Thompson took 16th.
In the boys 100-yard breaststroke event, Oleg Kolesnikov took second with a state qualifying time of 1:03.37, Ben Grottle took fifth, and Aaron Grann took seventh.
In the girls 100-yard breaststroke, Caroline Gaines took second with a state qualifying time of 1:13.53, followed by Camille Brown in fifth, and Taylor Minnich-Trapino in 10th.
For the last event of the evening, the boys 400-yard freestyle A-relay (Ben Grottle, Zach Andersen, Jack O'Connor, Michael O'Connor, Gavin Schoeling) took third with a state qualifying time. The B-relay (Aaron Grann, Gavin Grann, Alex O'Connor, Gavin Schoeling) took fourth, and the C-relay (Dylan Brousseau, Elijah Edison, Raj Malik, Matthew Harper) took eighth.
The girls A-relay (Sophie Brison, Jennifer Griner, Caroline Gaines, Kate Kerber) took first with a state qualifying time of 3:46.35, about 15-second before the second place team. The B-relay (Camille Brown, Paige Jaeger, Abby Harber, Sydney Forbes) took fourth, and the C-relay (Abigail Marzullo, Sela Guy, Jamie Walsh, Olivia Skinner) took ninth.
The team has a busy week ahead as the Bears will travel to Cumming Aquatic Center for the County Line Cup on Friday 11/19 for diving and Saturday 11/20 for swimming. The North Fulton schools will face off against the Forsyth County Schools for top bragging rights! Diving begins at 7:30 PM on Friday and 12:30 PM on Saturday. On Monday, 11/22, the Bears will host Riverwood and the Rivers School at Cumming Aquatic Center at 10:30 AM with diving to kick off the meeting. Swimming will begin immediately after around 11:15 AM.
