Cambridge Swim and Dive Brings Home Win Against Wesleyan, Friday, Nov. 13th

On Friday, November 13th, Cambridge traveled to Wesleyan to face off in a dual meet. In the second meet of the season, the Bears came out strong and put up some great performances. At the end of the night, the Bears had 17 state qualifying swims and 2 state qualifying divers.

At the beginning of the night, the Bears set the tone in the medley relay. Both the boys' and girls' team swept the event. For the boys' team, the A-relay (Michael O'Connor, Jack O'Connor, Billy Blood, Alex O'Connor) had a first place state qualifying swim with a time of 1:48.68. The B-relay (Zach Andersen, Abhi Malik, Aiden Goodnight, Nick Feliciani) took third.

The girls' A-relay (Kate Kerber, Jayla Brown, Claire Kerber, Samantha Hamilton) also took first with a state qualifying time of 1:56.24. The B-relay (Eva Medici, Grace Ghent, Kathryn Suplee, Abby Harber) took second also with a state qualifying time of 2:03.52. The C-relay (Paige Jaeger, Camille Brown, Laura Watkins, Olivia Skinner) took fourth, the D-relay (Emma Solomon, Anna Kate Black, Anna Filipek, Izzy Filipek) took fifth.

The good times kept rolling with Michael O'Connor in the 200-free who finished in first with a time of 1:55.51, just off the state qualifying time. Teammate Aiden Goodnight took second, and Zach Andersen took third, which topped off a nice sweep of the event.

The girls met with similar results. Kate Kerber took first in the 200-free with a state qualifying time of 2:05.17, followed by Kathryn Suplee in second place. Anna Filipek took fourth, Emma Solomon took fifth, and Izzy Filipek took sixth.

In the boys 200-individual medley, Billy Blood finished in first with a state qualifying time of 2:06.05. Jack O'Connor finished in third also with a state qualifying time of 2:09.49.

In the girls 200-individual medley, Claire Kerber finished in first with a state qualifying time of 2:18.63. Jessica Hernandez took third, Laura Watkins took fourth, and Anna Kate Black took sixth.

In the boys 50-free, Alex O'Connor took second with a time of 24.68. Matthew Harper took fifth, and Nick Feliciani took sixth.

The girls swept the competition. Samantha Hamilton took second with a 26.90, Emma Guy took third, Eva Medici took fourth, Abby Harber took fifth, Paige Jaeger took sixth, Jayci Brown took seventh, Sydney Forbes took eighth, Phoenix Koontz took ninth, and Anna Kate Black took 12th.

Swimming took a break so diving could be conducted. The Bears had five girls and two boys competing. On the boys side, senior Jack Oblen was the top scorer for the Bears with 180.40 points. Brendan Hunt scored 141.60 points to take fourth. Both boys showed significant improvement in their execution and technique. Both competed at the state meet last year and hope to return this year. On the girls side, Emilija Ragaine took first place with another state-quality performance and scoring 215.40 points. Captain Kate McKay took second place with a total of 212.65 and all of the state requirements met, so she will join Ragaine on the state roster for 2021. Addy Woods is knocking on the doorstep of the state meet with a score of 194.10 to take fourth place and is looking to clench her spot at next week's meet. Hana El-Gazairly finished in fifth. Malaika Murlidhar took sixth.

Swimming continued with the 100-butterfly. Billy Blood took second place with a state qualifying time of 56.08. Michael O'Connor took third, and Aiden Goodnight took fourth.

For the girls, the Bears swept the lineup. Kate Kerber took first with a state qualifying time of 1:02.13, Camille Brown took second, and Kathryn Suplee took third. Laura Watkins also took fifth and Anna Filipek took sixth.

In the boys 100-free, Abhi Malik took third, Matthew Harper took fifth and Nick Feliciani took sixth.

For the girls, Jayla Brown took second with a state qualifying time of 55.69, Emma Guy took third, Paige Jaeger took fourth, Grace Ghent took fifth, and Jayci Brown took sixth.

In the boys 500-free, Jack O'Connor took first by 45-seconds with a state qualifying time of 5:13.37.

In the girls 500-free, Jessica Hernandez took first with a time of 5:43.70, just off the state qualifying time. Olivia Skinner swam a personal best time to take second. Abby Harber took fourth, Phoenix Koontz took fifth, and Izzy Filipek took sixth.

In the 200-free relay, the boys A-relay (Zach Andersen, Abhi Malik, Matthew Harper, Aiden Goodnight) took second.

The girls swept the competition. The A-relay (Emma Guy, Eva Medici, Samantha Hamilton, Jessica Hernandez) took first with a state qualifying time of 1:47.05. The B-relay (Jamie Walsh, Abby Harber, Camille Brown, Jayci Brown) took second and the C-relay (Izzy Filipek, Sydney Forbes, Phoenix Koontz, Laura Watkins) took third.

In the 100-backstroke, Alex O'Connor took first with a state qualifying time of 59.95. Zach Andersen took third.

The girls once against swept the competition. Jamie Walsh took first with a state qualifying time of 1:05.07. Eva Medici took second just off the state qualifying time, Olivia Skinner took third, Samantha Hamilton took fourth, and Emma Solomon took fifth.

In the 100-breast, Abhi Malik took first.

For the girls event, Jayla Brown took the competition with a state qualifying time of 1:11.13. Teammate Jamie Walsh followed Brown in second, Camille Brown touched just after in third, Grace Ghent in fourth, and Sydney Forbes in fifth. 

In the last event of the evening, the boys 400-free A-relay (Billy Blood, Michael O'Connor, Jack O'Connor, Alex O'Connor) took first with a state qualifying time of 3:35.05.

The girls sealed the deal with their A-relay (Jayla Brown, Jessica Hernandez, Kate Kerber, Emma Guy) took first with a state qualifying time of 3:54.40. The B-relay (Jamie Walsh, Kathryn Suplee, Jayci Brown, Grace Ghent) took third, the C-relay (Anna Filipek, Sydney Forbes, Olivia Skinner, Anna Kate Black) took fourth, the D-relay (Phoenix Koontz, Emma Solomon, Paige Jaeger, Laura Watkins) took fifth.

The Bears will take on North Springs on Friday, November 20th at Cumming Aquatic Center at 8:00 PM. The meet will be live streaming so you can cheer from home! The Bears will also face off against Riverwood and Rivers Academy on Monday, November 23rd at Cumming Aquatic Center at 1:30 PM.
