Cambridge Swim/Dive Team Approaches Championship Season

Cambridge Swim/Dive Team Approaches Championship Season

Even though the Cambridge swim team couldn't compete in the Chamblee Invite last weekend, the divers did get a chance on the boards, Friday, December 6th.

All the divers got a chance on the boards and Noor El-Gazairly and Maddox Riddick had standout performances and punched their tickets to state. Some other new divers including Gracie Counsell, Hana El-Gazairly, Adeline Woods, Emilija Ragaine, Jack Oblen, and Malaika Murlidhar had some really solid performances. The returners like Kate McKay, Margeaux Messier, Camila Montes, and Brendan Hunt got some practice and prepared their routines for the meets ahead. The divers will get a couple chances over break to join the state roster.

The Bears will host two dive invites on December 27th and January 3rd at Cumming Aquatic Center. With the biggest dive roster in the region, Cambridge is looking to put up some great performances.

December and January are championship meet months for the Bears as they prepare for the last three major meets of the season. Next weekend, Cambridge will compete in the Madeleine Jude Brown Meet of Champions at Georgia Tech. Diving will compete on Friday, December 20th at 4 PM and swimming will compete at 9 AM on Saturday, December 21st. The competition this meet brings is always among the best of the season and a great opportunity to snag some extra state qualifying swims and dives as the Bears get to compete at the same pool they will compete in for state championships in February.

In January, Cambridge will host Fulton County Championships on January 9th at West Gwinnett Aquatic Center. Last year, Cambridge took the runner-up spot, but this year the Bears are looking to take home the gold. Johns Creek and Centennial pose themselves as the top competition for the Bears, but in the approach to this meet, Cambridge is looking strong and the team is focused and ready to put up their best times to try to take this region title.

At the end of January, the Bears will suit-up for Metro Atlanta Championships at Westminster on January 24th (diving) and January 25th (swimming). This will be their last chance to put up their best times for state seeding. For diving, this will be the last meet to grab and compete for the remaining spots on the roster for state. The Bears always put up good times and extend the state roster at this meet and they expect to do nothing less this year.

With some members of the squad competing in big meets last weekend and Junior Winter Nationals this week (including Abby Grottle, Ben Grottle, Sophie Brison, Matthew Gaines), there are some big expectations going into the state meet for these members to contribute significant points and lead the Bears to major individual, relay and team podium finishes.
