Bears Swim & Dive Team Takes 1st in Riverside Invitational Meet, Wednesday, Dec. 5th

Cambridge swim traveled to Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville on Wednesday, December 5th, and finished in first with combined team score and girls' team score. The boys' team took second against a very strong and very large Riverside squad.

Starting off in the 200-yard medley relay, Cambridge A-relay (Jack O'Connor, Gabe Montes, Michael O'Connor, Nick DiPonzio) took third with a time of 1:52.54. The B-relay (John Empoliti, Konata Ford, Aiden Goodnight, Abhi Malik) took sixth.

In the girls' 200-yard medley relay event, Cambridge A-relay (Camille Brown, Grace Ghent, Delaney Goodell, Brooke McLain) took second in a close race that came down to the touch with North Forsyth but the girls fell just short with a time of 2:06.59. The C-relay (Emma Solomon, Adyson LeeMaster, Anna Kerber, Priscilla Rodriguez Sevilla) took fifth, the B-relay (Sydney Chambers, Caitlin-Rose Burke, Rachel Henderson, Morgan Young) took sixth, and the D-relay (Adi Avishai, Amelia Duffner, Laura Watkins, Izzy Filipek) took ninth.

In the boys' 200-yard freestyle, freshman Michael O'Connor took the lead early and held on to finish over five seconds ahead of the next finisher with a time of 1:56.86. Harrison Cottick took eighth.

In the girls' 200-yard free event, Cambridge swept the race by taking the top four finishing places. Camille Brown took first, Anna Kerber took second, Morgan Young took third, and Rachel Henderson took fourth. Izzy Filipek had a notable performance and placed in seventh.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Jack O'Connor had a lot of competition and, even with a great race, he took fifth with a time of 2:17.14.

On the girls' side, Emma Guy took third in the 200-yard individual medley with teammate Libby Jones following up in fourth. Olivia Cash took sixth, Laura Watkins took seventh, and Emma Solomon took eighth.

In the 50-yard freestyle event on the boys' side, Konata Ford took eighth, and Abhi Malik took 24th.

For the girls' team, Brooke McLain narrowly missed the state qualifying time by touching in 26.89, but the time was good enough to take first place by almost a full second. Grace Ghent took third, Eva Medici took fifth, Delaney Goodell took 10th, Paige Jaeger took 12th, Katie Fox took 15th, and Adi Avishai took 32nd.

In the boys' 100-yard butterfly, Michael O'Connor had another great performance and touched in a new best time of 1:00.38 with Gabe Montes finishing in second and Aiden Goodnight finishing in third. All three boys are so close to qualifying for state and we anticipate they will do so in the coming weeks.

For the girls' team, Olivia Cash took third, Delaney Goodell took fourth, Laura Watkins took fifth, Emma Guy took sixth, and Amelia Duffner took ninth.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Nick DiPonzio took third with a time of 52.69, which is a new best time and very close to state qualifying. Harrison Cottick took 20th.

In the girls' 100-yard freestyle, Brooke McLain claimed another first place finish, followed by teammates Grace Ghent in third, Anna Kerber in ninth, Adyson LeeMaster in 10th, Sydney Chambers in 11th, Priscilla Rodriguez Sevilla in 13th, Izzy Filipek in  14th, and Adi Avishai in 17th.

In the 500-yard freestyle event, Aiden Goodnight took fourth for the boys' team.

For the girls' team, Camille Brown touched in first for the second time that evening and teammate Morgan Young finished in fourth.

The boys' 200-yard freestyle relay (John Empoliti, Konata Ford, Aiden Goodnight, Harrison Cottick) took seventh.

In the girls' 200-yard freestyle relay, the A-relay (Emma Guy, Libby Jones, Sydney Chambers, Olivia Cash) took third. The C-relay (Priscilla Rodriguez Sevilla, Paige Jaeger, Laura Watkins, Izzy Filipek) took eighth.

In the boys' 100-yard backstroke, Nick DiPonzio secured first place with a time of 1:00.62, followed by teammate Jack O'Connor in third, and John Empoliti in sixth.

For the girls' team, Eva Medici once again secured a first place finish with a time of 1:06.39, less than half a second from the state cut. Libby Jones took fourth, Sydney Chambers in 10th, Rachel Henderson in 12th, and Emma Solomon in 13th.

In the boys' 100-yard breaststroke event, Gabe Montes swam a great race and took second place followed by Konata Ford in seventh place, John Empoliti in 10th and Abhi Malik in 12th.

In the girls' 100-yard breastroke, Adyson LeeMaster improved her time to place fourth overall, followed by Caitlin-Rose Burke in fifth, Amelia Duffner in eighth, Paige Jaeger in ninth, and Priscilla Rodriguez Sevilla in 10th.

In the last event of the evening, the boys in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Nick DiPonzio, Jack O'Connor, Michael O'Connor, Gabe Montes) took second with a time of 3:42.80.

In the girls' event, the Cambridge girls' A-relay (Emma Guy, Grace Ghent, Libby Jones, Brooke McLain) took first with a lead of over four-seconds from the next team to finish. The B-relay (Delaney Goodell, Camille Brown, Anna Kerber, Morgan Young) took third, and the C-relay (Olivia Cash, Rachel Henderson, Katie Fox, Caitlin-Rose Burke) took fourth.

Preview of Upcoming Meets

On Friday, Dec. 7th, Cambridge will travel to Wesleyan for a swimming and diving competition against Wesleyan and Lovett and then next week, Cambridge will travel to Georgia Tech on Friday and Saturday (the 14th and 15th) for the Meet of Champions hosted by Marist which is one of the biggest meets of the season. Come and cheer on the divers on Friday and the swimmers on Saturday!
