Cambridge Swimmers Win First Meet of the Season

In the first official meet of the season, Cambridge took on North Spring Charter High School at Dynamo Alpharetta on Saturday, November 14th, and came home with a solid victory.

From the beginning, the Cambridge men turned out solid performances. In the first event of the day, the men's 200-yard medley relay took the first place position with the A-relay team (Jake Todd, Kyle Daniel, Ethan Nalwasky, Conor Wesolowski) with a time of 1:52.06. The B-relay team (Sean McGinty, Ben Balmes, Connor Fleming, Jared Keim) also scored points by touching the wall in second place.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle event, Conor Wesolowski took first place with a time of 2:05.62, followed by Connor Christiansen in second, Konata Ford in third, Sean McGinty in fourth, and Cole Pieroni in fifth. In the 200-yard individual medley, freshman Ben Balmes took second place. In the 50-yard freestyle event, Jared Keim took first place overall with a personal best time of 24.81, followed by Jason Hink in second, Cameron Chong in third, and Ben Walker in fourth. In the 100-yard butterfly event, Ethan Nalwasky took first with a time of 59.41, followed by teammate Jason Yang in second place. Connor Fleming took fourth, followed by Kyle Daiel in fifth and Ben Walker in sixth. 

In the 100-yard freestyle event, Jake Todd took first place with a time of 53.06, which is about a second away from the state-qualifying time. Todd was followed by teammate Jared Keim in second place, Jason Hink in third, Konata Ford in fourth, and Cameron Chong in fifth. In the 500-yard freestyle event, Conor Wesolowski took first with a time of 5:50.25, followed by teammate Sean McGinty in third, and Cole Pierogi in fourth. 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Cambridge A-relay (Jared Keim, Jason Hink, Konata Ford, Connor Christiansen) took first with a time of 1:44.06, followed by the B-relay (Kyel Daniel, Cameron Chong, Ben Walker, Cole Pieroni) in second. 

In the 100-yard backstroke event, Jake Todd took first with a time of 1:00.66, less than a second away from the state qualifying time. Connor Christiansen followed Todd in second place. In the 100-yard breaststroke event, Jason Yang took first place with a personal best time of 1:08.75, followed by teammate Kyle Daniel in second. Ben Balmes took fourth. 

In the last event of the day, Cambridge took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The A-relay (Jake Todd, Konata Ford, Ethan Nalwasky, Conor Wesolowski) touched the wall with a time of 3:51.69. The B-relay (Connor Christiansen, Jason Hink, Sean McGinty, Jason Yang) took second place, followed by the C-relay (Ben Balmes, Connor Fleming, Cole Pieroni, Cameron Chong) in third place. 

Women's Team Recap

Just like the men's team, the women had an incredibly strong performance all day. In the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley A-relay team (Caley Cramer, Katie Fishman, Olivia Mahler, Alex Newcomer) finished first with a state-qualifying time of 2:01.78. The B-relay (Darby Goodyear, Sydney Swenton, Sophia LaMarca, Anna Salvadori) took third, followed by the C-relay (Colleen McCreanor, Sarah Moore, Emily Powers, Sydney Anderson) in fourth. 

In the 200-yard freestyle event, Alex Newcomer took first with a time of 2:13.82, which was over seven-seconds faster than her best time last season. Newcomer was followed by Darby Goodyear in second, Annah Morgan in third, Julia Dinardo in fourth and Sydney Anderson in fifth. In the 200-individual medley, Sydney Swenton touched the wall in first place with a time of 2:39.56, followed by teammate Katie Fishman in second, Olivia Mahler in third, and Emily Powers in fifth. 

In the 50-yard freestyle event, Caley Cramer took first with a time of 26.87. Avery Osborne took third, Sophia LaMarca took fourth, Melissa Mandato and Ashley Dale Henslee tied for sixth, Cat Kania took eighth, Ayana Dudley took ninth and Natalie Henderson took tenth. In the 100-yard butterfly event, Olivia Mahler took third, Anna Salvador took fourth, Emily Powers took fifth, Sophia LaMarca took sixth and Bella Kane took seventh. 

In the 100-yard freestyle event, Caley Cramer swept the event with a first place finish in a time of 58.65, followed by Alex Newcomer in second, Katie Durden in third, Paula Morales in fourth, and Ashley Dale Henslee in sixth. In the 500-yard freestyle event, Darby Goodyear swam a personal best time of 5:59.06 to take first place, followed by Sydney Anderson in second, and Ella McIlvain in fourth. 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the B-relay (Annah Morgan, Paula Morales, Sarah Moore, Carolyn McLain) surprised everyone by overtaking the event to finish first. The C-relay (Ashley Robinson, Cat Kania, Isabella Empoliti, Avery Osborne) took third, and the A-relay (Sydney Swenton, Ashley Dale Henslee, Katie Fishman, Anna Salvadori) took fourth. 

In the 100-yard backstroke, Katie Durden took second with a time of 1:11.59, followed by Paula Morales in fourth, Julia Dinardo in fifth, Isabella Empoliti in sixth, and Colleen McCreanor in seventh. In the 100-yard breaststroke event, Katie Fishman took first with a time of 1:18.90, followed by teammate Sydney Swenton in second, Sarah Moore in third, Ayana Dudley in sixth, and Melissa Mandato in eighth. 

In the last event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle A-relay (Caley Cramer, Paula Morales, Katie Durden, Alex Newcomer) took first with a time of 4:16.78. The B-relay (Darby Goodyear, Annah Morgan, Anna Salvadori, Ella McIlvain) took second, and the C-relay (Ashley Robinson, Natalie Henderson, Carolyn McLain, Julia Dinardo) took third.

Keep an eye out for the Cambridge swimming and diving team in the coming weeks. Next week, the Bears will travel to Gainesville to compete at Riverside Military Academy Tuesday, Nov. 17th.

We will also finally get to see our divers perform also in Gainesville. In the early weeks of December, Cambridge will face tough competition as they take on Roswell, Johns Creek, Northview, and Lassiter before heading to Emory to compete with some of the best in the state. The divers will also compete against elite programs like Lambert and South Forsyth in the coming weeks.
